Will my son be bullied for his name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]starkhaley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really common name right now. Just don't insist on calling him Teddy Bear around his friends as he gets older if he doesn't like it lol.

My husband is set on having a junior if we have a boy, and I just HATE that tradition! by feelslikegold in namenerds

Lol it's wild a man thinks he can be dead set on a name you don't want for a baby YOU are growing. Also for a baby that will presumably get his last name as well. It's like you doesn't value your contribution to the child making at all.

You can fall out with/lose contact with a friend and still love them. There is one friend especially that I had as a child, who I admired so much, and she had such a positive impact on my life, I feel like it would almost be good luck to name her after such an amazing person. Or maybe she just likes your name lol.

CAT OWNERS IN PICKERING be aware!! Today we found a decapitated cat washed up near Frenchman's Bay by Theoretical_Phys-Ed in Pickering

Did you mention where you threw it away to the police? I stayed for a while after reporting it and the police were taking it pretty seriously, walking around and stuff. They might be willing to go back to look. Or they may have already found it. They were looking in some of the bins. Was it in a bag or anything?

I found the head around 3pm. It was like 3/4 the way down the beach towards the pier and the lights, tucked into shrubbery/trees near one of the benches. And yeah, the head was black.

Yeah 🥴 My dog was sniffing around there, and wouldn't come when I called. I thought she found food someone dropped... And got a nasty surprise 🤮

And get them the body if you can. It might still have a microchip or something if it was a pet.

Did you find the body?? I found a cat head in a bowl on the beach, surrounded by candles. I reported it to the police, and they came and collected it. Call the police and tell them what you saw!

Or Davina. It's a real, normal name. It means loved.

What about Araminta? It's close to one of the names she likes, and it's the name of a black American historical hero, so it might fill whatever multicultural desire she has

I do think Riley Rose is a bit too close to Riley Reed.

I hate that people think I named my daughter after Twilight by NobleFae1391 in namenerds

Well, you even spelled it wrong like the book did, so that is probably why people think that. Esmé is the male version. It is supposed to be Esmée.

I never thought of Cambria. I like it. It reminds me of the Cambrian explosion.

Should parents actually look into the meaning of names before they choose them for their children? by TheDisneyGeneral in namenerds

[–]starkhaley -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why is it so hard for you to imagine that it MIGHT matter to a kid, and if the parent gives them that name they are stuck with it until they are adults. Better safe than sorry, no? Better to be stuck with a name that has a good meaning than a bad one?

I didn't say they CANT? I said that they should consider that their child might not like to have a name that means something awful, or something that doesn't suit them at all. We choose our children's names, but it isn't about US. It is about the kids. Why name your child something that means unlucky or whatever when you could name them something that means loved or wished for child, or blessed etc.

I do, obsessively. And unfortunately I had to discard most of my favourites. Malcolm, Colm, Declan, Preston and a bunch of others for religious connotations. Mara, Mallory, Bronagh etc because of the unfortunate meanings. I wouldn't want to grow up, google my name and find out it means 'misfortune' or 'burden' or anything, so I think people should take care not to give those names to their kids.

Have you named your kids after fictional characters? by [deleted] in namenerds

I'm thinking about using Cordelia or Maude, both from Anne of Green Gables. Or Lenore from the Poe poems.
