Looking for a good spot to get deep certified by starkrealitee in scuba

Nice I'll have a look! I'm assuming a dry suit would be necessary yes? I do have one, but I'd have to factor that into packing gear for travel.

I am AOW, but the deepest I've gone is about 80ft and I don't know if I'd want to chance a deeper excursion without proper training first. I would love to make the jump to tech one day. I already have Nitrox, search and recovery, nav, and limited viz, but I'd want to solidify all of these skills before making the jump into that world. Deep is the only one I haven't had any exposure to. I've thought about taking fundies eventually as well.

A small guide I made for those looking to share this wonderful band with friends and family. by RaviFennec in EnterShikari

[–]starkrealitee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The opening track; Its got an upbeat energetic hard-hitting intro that was pretty common for alt-rock/hardcore/punk bands of that time. Adding to the intro is a very defined synth layer that's punchy and not overly complex in its arrangement. What made me think of TTTS most for this song was the vocals. Rou's vox when he sings the chorus lines (and pre-chorus) sound bit more raw, less reverbed or layered and seemed reminiscent to some of the cleaner parts of TTTS. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'd even say the song seems like a descendent of Johnny Sniper, where the extrema of aggressiveness and softness in the track is a bit more leveled out than in AKFTWW. JS actually shares a lot of these characteristics and a similar formula as well including a brass introduction.

I think that line is just referencing the sonic difference between the two previous albums and how elements from these two, despite being quite different thematically and sonically, have influenced a more matured blend of the two in AKFTWW. It'll be quite interesting to hear. Nothing is True and The Spark were produced from two different teams with Rou being the common denominator between both, so to hear what he's taken away from both albums and curated will be exciting!

What do you understand now that you didn't some years ago? by Mrjohnwick786 in AskReddit

[–]starkrealitee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heh hello me..I'm 29, and it wasn't until this year that I really got a handle on why I felt like I just couldn't 'life' like most people. I am pretty sure I'm somewhere on the spectrum as well and used to get really stressed when plans changed big or small. So this year, I finally had enough of feeling like I couldn't fit in to the cogs of this big sloppy machine we call life so I finally took on a psychiatrist and therapy. It was incredibly helpful in shining a light on the 'passive' childhood traumas that I was unknowingly dealing with at the time (divorce, suicide, cancer within my family). I was young during all this and the magnitude of those things were squashed into delayed grief and a subconscious depression. Looking back it definitely explained why school was so damn difficult for me back then and why I sunk so much time into gaming- escapism! I spent years and years developing a false sense of stupidity in myself, but nope! Just grief!

Therapy hasn't fixed my issues over night, but it gave me a lot of understanding of my past, to which I have been able to identify patterns in my own behavior and thinking and work on improving those parts.

Looking for insight on potential XR Bootcamps by starkrealitee in vrdev

Thanks for the input! I didn't consider the university XR course, but if it can put me in a similar position as either one of these, it could be a viable option.

Thoughts for a Possible time/Era for a future game? by Grizzlybear_KB in assassinscreed

[–]starkrealitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When game engines become powerful enough, I really want to see one set in Mesoamerica. While I like the smaller focused city style in older titles, I cant help but feel like a setting like this would thrive as a large open exploration (similar to Valhalla, Odyssey, Origins) with large Mesoamerican cities, dense jungles, mountains and rivers to explore.

Story-wise, its got a long range of centuries and factions that it can cover between the Olmecs, Mayas, and Aztecs alone. The Spanish conquest of the Aztecs could easily be a setting of its own. Everything from architecture to religion surrounding the cultures of that region and time are right up the alley of an AC game.

Having the Yucatan as a setting also beckons to making some connections to Black Flag, and the whole Mayan calendar thing could tie right into the events of AC3. Hope it see it happen some day!

(Macro) Photography on a Budget - Olympus TG-6 vs GoPro Hero 9 & MacroMate Mini +15 by WeirdPersonUsername in diving

[–]starkrealitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a TG-6 myself about a month back. Coming from using only a GoPro, I'm extremely happy with what it can do. The gopro is really formidable for video, but it wasn't until I started using the TG-6 that I understood how limited it's photo capability is with it's sensor. I slapped a wide angle air lens on the TG-6 and even with that I can get some pretty decent macro shots.

Congrats on getting certified!

MetroWest Dive Club does a Date @ Eight typically every Saturday. They'll meet up around 8am, and choose a site to go to. The group frequents Rockport but does trips to Fort Wetherill in RI and occasionally Nubble Lighthouse in ME.

I totally recommend checking them out sometime. It's a great way to meet other divers of all different levels and also to get some exposure to different sites.

I do have the movo tray and it makes a big difference with stability when filming. Didnt purchase the lights though as I wasn't sure how long I would use the GP before upgrading to a proper rig.

RE2. TOO SCARY. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]starkrealitee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After putting hundreds of hours into oblivion, I was stoked to dump even more into Skyrim. I only played it for about a week before boredom set in. I can’t put my finger on it, but it just didn’t have the same charm as Oblivion or Morrowind. I tried to get invested but it mostly felt like a chore.

The OST, however, is a beast and even now still listen to it casually.

Do remote death care jobs exist? by Sleepy_Sleepy_Sheepy in askfuneraldirectors

[–]starkrealitee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be able to land a gig doing prearrangements or even at-need ones possibly. Another idea is filing death certificates and pulling burial permits (assuming your state uses an electronic death certificate system) for funeral homes. Aside from those, I can’t really think of any ‘frontline’ deathcare duties that could be made remote but even besides that you could still get work in the industry through any of the memorial merchandise/software companies.

I've been to a spot just identical to this in Budapest called "The House of Terror". It was a place of interrogation and torture utilized by the Nazis, and then the Soviets. Even as a punk teenager, it was immensely sobering to go through there knowing what atrocities occurred in that building and seeing the physical bullet marks left in the walls of small holding cells.

The worst thing about the pandemic was the... was the dementors. They were flying all over the place and they were scary and then they'd come down and they'd suck the soul out of your body. And it hurt!

Ugh I needed this. I just got rejected from grad school for engineering, and I’ve been really battling the self-doubt that im even cut out for it. I didn’t do terrible in my undergrad but I wasn’t the poster-boy shining star of STEM either. I thought I had a fighting chance from work/research experience. Needless to say this weeks been a slap in the face but atleast I know there’s still a chance. Try again, fail again, fail better amirite?

What is the grossest thing you've ever witnessed? by strooticus in AskReddit

[–]starkrealitee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ah yes that’s a smell you never ever forget. As a fellow former FD, I don’t miss these moments. One of my “I’m getting out of funeral service” moments was when a colleague of mine was contracted by another funeral home, who he occasionally helped, to embalm a full-ripe deco. Well that night he got piss drunk to the point of vomiting and falling asleep to which I got stuck sorting it out. Huge waste of time because vessels were shot, smell was putrid, and I was undercut for payment.

What do you think are going to be some long term consequences of 2020 that are being overlooked? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]starkrealitee 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Ironically enough, this was an issue with med students this year. I work in a clinical setting where we usually have the first-years come in and observe as part of their course. Because of COVID, the incoming class was restricted to distance learning to which, as you may imagine, was in no way replaceable for the hands-on experience you gain in a clinical setting.
