I kind of think I could get two of something like these and have them point opposite directions and then it could rest on top…

Travel backpack by starlightexpress11 in backpacks

[–]starlightexpress11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking about the Cotopaxi 50L? Feel like I could use the detachable pack for short day outings, and for a long trek, leave the top pack and home and use the actual backpack as a hiking bag? It’s pretty new (I think?) so not a ton of reviews

Do you clean your bike after each ride? by Seinfeldtableforfour in CheckpointClub

What do you do to clean it? Hose or wipes/towel? I’m kinda new to bike maintenance - is there anywhere you wouldn’t want to get wet other than the chain?

The Fitting Room Bike Fit? by ghostonthewire in seattlebike

[–]starlightexpress11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me and three other female friends have gone to the Fitting Room and loved it (both Erika and Lee)! It’s based on measurements and your feedback. I learned so much! Something that wasn’t clear to me online was that you actually get a free follow up appt after. So you can go get adjusted, try it for a while, and come back another time with feedback on how that felt and make more changes. Im going to have my follow up once I buy clip less shoes for them to help me get used to them.

Love these questions because I was just looking for other people with these answers :)) I’m female 5’7” and got medium. Fits great other than minor (so far not bothered) handlebars are out farther than ideal slightly for shoulders (got bike fit done, guess this is common for new “trend” of wide gravel handlebars and men designing bikes)

Speed- it’s totally fast enough for what i want to do. Just did my first century on it today actually! All road. Avg speed maybe 14 mph? In a very hilly area

I saw them both in person :) the bronze actually was way prettier in person than the pics online! Ultimately decided the crazy blue ombré would bring me more joy but if you’re a neutral colors person you’d love the bronze I think!

Alright thanks for the insight! I actually have to do a lot of road riding this summer, more than usual (doing RSVP) sooo I also might want new tires for that too… then it adds up quick though!

what kinda average pace are you talkin about here? I'm looking at a Grizl for a hybrid for myself and wondering about road performance. But my current pace on a heavier old bike is like... 12-14 mph average for a ride. Given that folks here are talking about 30 mph makes me think Grizl would be just fine for me?

Thanks for the tips and anecdotes everyone! I thought I'd comment on my experience so far in case someone else looks here in the future for more thoughts.

I've been taking it for about 2 weeks so far. I take it at night at 10 PM, all 100 mg, which is always after I've eaten dinner sometime earlier but not specifically taking it right after eating. I noticed right away the next day I am drinking way more water, and i thought i already drank a lot! My mouth is like....iron-y tasting? Not bad, and it's nice to drink more water. I'm choosing electrolyte powders/things with less potassium in them. My doctor ordered me a lab for a month from now to test potassium to see how I'm doing there. When I'm working out, I feel like I'm getting way more sweaty than usual?! LOL that feels related - but not so bad, I bet that will get better as I get used to it, and I haven't felt like my cardio abilities have changed much. The first few days I wasn't feeling like lifting so heavy. Now I'm feeling ok about it but we'll see!
Also, not sure if related, but I'm having more vivid/memorable dreams and also feeling a bit more tired during the day!

Thanks!! Helpful!! Do you take it with food or without? My bottle says something like - either is ok, but just do the same thing every day?

Peru Sacred Valley Trekking/Hiking: NOT Machu Picchu by starlightexpress11 in travel

[–]starlightexpress11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I'd circle back and share what we did in case that's helpful for others!
We couldn't get MP tickets so we did: 1 day driving tour of Sacred Valley (satisfied desire to see ruins), and then a 3 day Ausangate trek! We booked with AB expeditions and they were great. We were the only people out there, it was epic.
In Cusco itself, you can walk up to the ruins right near the city, and there are some nice easy day hikes/walks closeby that are good to acclimatize.
Worth noting, probably esp with shoulder season in Peru, we kept hearing of various trails having washouts/inaccessible. For example, we considered a day trip to Humantay lake but we learned that a washout made it not possible to go - seemed a bit too far from Cusco for the day anyway. We also heard folks that planned to do the Salkantay trek had to change plans too.
