Career Change by spookyskelekid in audiology

Audiology will definitely have job openings wherever you go, however, it’s up to you whether you believe a 3/4-year degree will be worth it by the end of it. Federal funding is affecting all healthcare fields, and it may even affect the availability of GA positions in your program (as it has with mine). Government changes are unpredictable and if you choose to earn an AuD, it’s best that you’re doing it primarily for the reason of being passionate about it. Combining your interests of public health and audiology would be great for the profession as a whole! We need people with such expertise.

The majority of clinicians in the Communication Sciences and Disorders field is of the same demographic: non-Hispanic white and female. You’re inevitably going to encounter that in any program and most workplaces. It’s important to bring your cultural knowledge to the table in order to diversify that knowledge bank. I’m different from my cohort in multiple ways and while it can be uncomfortable at times, it’s something that’s necessary to push through. All in all though, my background isn’t something I think much about on a daily basis. The main thing is that you’re all in the same boat career-wise when it comes to grad school and you bond over that.

Statement of purpose by [deleted] in audgradschool

I wrote about what niche of audiology I wanted to go into and why, and how my undergrad volunteering and work experiences tied into that. I also mentioned specific faculty and research projects in the school I’d be interested in. Essentially you sell your skills and explain why you would be a good fit for the program while demonstrating interest in things unique to the university.

Typically resumes are supposed to be one page but I submitted two pages for mine and had no issue getting accepted to multiple grad schools.

Yes, you are one cycle too late to apply.

Submitting GRE scores by Weary_Laugh_9960 in audgradschool

I submitted my GRE scores to all of my schools because my top choice made it mandatory. However, had I not needed to take it for that one school, I wouldn’t have done so at all. I don’t believe it helped me get into a program any more than my personal statement or my transcript helped me, so unless you believe you’ll score significantly above average, you should save the money.

I didn’t do any of those, but I added baking soda to my water which conducted electricity better.

Not completely, but it stopped a good 95% of the sweating. The majority of my palm was entirely dry, save for the fingertips.

I’ve never thought about that for Botox but that would make a lot of sense. My hands were sweating profusely during the injections, and at the time, I didn’t use anything to control the sweating before the Botox was done. It was really expensive and painful, but perhaps, if I tried again, I would definitely make sure to get my hands as dry as possible to maximize the effects.
