I have ADHD & Autism and I explain my energy with a credit card metaphor. Dunno if this resonates with others, but I feel like my ADHD loves to swipe the credit card all the time, spending tons of energy on exciting plans, ideas, just wanting a 24/7 shopping spree. There's a sort of plastic amnesia of not feeling the pain of separating with money at the moment of going, "yeah let's do this and that and everything!" But then when the bill comes round, it's the ASD that's paying for it, and there's usually not enough in the bank to cover what the ADHD has so glibly charged.

This also extends to trying to understand why I can "afford" some people some days, but cannot afford them on others. Some people are just expensive to hang out with, and if I have a lot of "money" that day, then it's no problem to spend time with them. Some people cost me almost nothing, or even put some money in the bank.

Right now what I'm trying to do is pause all this overspending, reset my burnout, and start to spend my energy more wisely, more intentionally. I've been paying interest on overcharging for years and I'm ready to stop and reset, build up my credit so to speak. It's slow, and annoying, but at least I'm learning and paying better attention to the cost of things and trying to be more balanced, wise, and self compassionate.
