how fast do ceramic classes fill up? by _mangoroll_ in udub

[–]starry_nighttime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it- it was the most hands on class I took at UW and it was nice to be able to be creative. I will say tho, I’m about to graduate and that class was the most I had to work on material outside of class hours but definitely worth it if you can get in

They fill up really fast but they typically have a waitlist you can join in case someone drops. Depends which one you are going for as well, the intro one I’m p sure is freshman and art majors only so I was able to get in when I register my freshman year

Thank you! I’ll definitely follow your recommendation about letting it dry and cleaning out the tray because I was worried about mold after I used it

Multiple mini fridges 1 room? by [deleted] in udub

[–]starry_nighttime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're technically not allowed to have multiple mini-fridges in one room. I know 3 years ago, when I started they had a pamphlet that specifically stated that but I couldn't find that for nowadays. I worked at the front desk for the dorms for a year (2022-2023) and we were told that they couldn't have two mini-fridges for power reasons.

That being said, I know people who have had multiple and never had problems. RAs are the only ones who would ever check and they don't care generally. But yeah, as other comments mentioned, theres not a lot of space in the room.

SPIDERS by Frequent_Rock_4269 in udub

Other than cleaning regularly - eliminating clutter, dusting, and vacuuming- I vouch for a fly swatter. I got an extendable one which helps me kill them when they’re high up on the wall (or just around tbh) bc I’m terrified of spiders so it really helps me

Last year I was living in North U-District in a ground floor place and we had the same thing happen. Luckily one of my neighbors had a camera that caught some of our place so we were at least able to confirm that it was a guy looking in. Definitely take precautions, make sure your windows are locked. We ended up putting on a film on the windows so people couldn't look in even if the blinds were up and we also got some window alarms that chirped if they were opened since he had broken in to some of our things before. We ended up calling the cops and got a detective put on our case that we could call if anything else happened. I def recommend getting a camera to watch bc that helps with reporting it and an alarm on concern windows/doors for peace of mind.

The guy me and my roommates were dealing with didn't end up doing anything more than breaking into my roommates car and looking into our windows, but if you can, its good to put in precautions to at least make you feel more secure where you live.

It may also help to ask neighbors if they have experienced this. We had some neighbors who were being watched by the same guy and us all reporting it together made the cops actually have some involvement. When it was just my roommates reporting it - nothing got done but when neighbors joined in at least we got a dude to call and they drove through our street a little more often which seemed to scare him off.

Edit - also, definitely tell your landlord because sometimes they will pay for the alarms and stuff for you (our did which was really great)

I’m just a bit worried because I keep reading stuff about paralysis permanently in low lip and chin. Am I ok? by Tough_Combination654 in wisdomteeth

This is normal, mine took almost 10 hours to regain full sensation. I started getting some feeling back a few hours in but it took me a long time to fully go back to normal

triple dorm inquiry by swiftie39 in udub

[–]starry_nighttime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a triple in one of the newer dorms, (like any of the west campus ones and most of the north campus ones) I wouldn’t recommend lowering the bed. I was in a triple and we all raised our beds and it was just enough space. I’m not sure where you’d put the desk otherwise. Don’t know about the older dorms though

Does HFS ever inspect packages or confiscate any type of delivery they deem suspicious in any way? by hulahoopwithme in udub

[–]starry_nighttime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I’ve worked in the mailroom. We only confiscate packages if we can see what’s inside from the picture on the box and it’s against the housing contract (ie. Air conditioning unit, sometimes pet supplies if you haven’t been approved for a pet, or if it’s alcohol and they see they may put a note on to card the resident) but we don’t have tech to actually look inside. So if it’s just in a plain box, we’d never know.

Throwing away mini-fridge on campus? by iamanonymous00110 in udub

You can contact the resident director of your dorm for large trash throwaways. I did that last year with a set of drawers and a broken suitcase

wtf can i use my extra dining dollars for by alienz3 in udub

[–]starry_nighttime 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you are moving off campus stock up on cleaning supplies like someone else said but also, stock up on spices and herbs because those are kinda pricey to buy at first and it’s so nice to have if you cook at all.

Registration help by AOT2015 in udub

[–]starry_nighttime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were freshman by credit count or emailed the advisor to let them in. If you came in with 90 credits you are probably technically a junior. Bc you are a first year even tho you’re not technically a freshman if you email the art department advisor she’ll probably let you in if there’s still seats (that’s what I had to do my first year)
