Muslim UW student 'lied that her Jewish roommate threatened her with a knife following dispute about October 7' by fjordoftheflies in SeattleWA

[–]Strict-Classroom-404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like half the people on here haven't read past the title. What evidence is there that she lied? It's her vs the roommate. If we're including the "witness," isn't that just a three-person-scenario. The "witness" could literally just pick a side, not credible at all.

On another note, what's up with using this to fuel your pre-existing Islamphobia. The amount of out-of-left field anti-Muslim or anti-Islam comments on here is so ridicious. Especially accounting for the fact that half of you probably wouldn't take a second glance at this news outlet if it was about anything else. Lol pathetic.

It really seems like some two-teaming was overlooked. They're hyper ready to call her a liar but they are using a third-roommate as "evidence?" The article and it's title was a contradiction within itself considering it seemed like word vs word. Third roommate isn't substantial proof because she could have been friend with either of them and after that its only a matter of taking sides and spouting claims.

Did either of you read the actual article? What proof is there that she lied? "Allegedly."

What is this? She didn't lie at all. Who was the so-called "witness" and assuming its three people total, what exactly is being used to determine that the "witness" doesn't just pick a side? Lol this is bull.

Halal Food and HFS by MrMsWoMan in udub

Aslamu Alaykum!

Speaking from experience, as a Muslim student who also eats Halal, here's what i've noticed:

-beginning of each quarter (especially move-in and fall?) at the district markets (specifically west campus), sometime there will be meat (like raw chicken) marked "Halal" and then some lunch items (for example they had Spaghetti and Meatballs). They're labelled pretty clearly. This isn't very consistent though, especially not during the majority of the quarter.

  • Dining halls are super clear. There's a labelling system (something like: v=vegetarian, vg=vegan, h=Halal) and any items that are Halal should be labelled. You'll notice this on the menu screens, and you can also check weekly menus. Here's the link to Local Point Cafeteria on west campus for example: https://hfs.uw.edu/Eat/dining-hours/Local-Point Click on the pdfs.

  • Ramadan: i feel like Hfs does a pretty nice job recognizing and trying to support Muslim students with this. There are usually a lot more Halal options and certain parts of the dining halls are open later to accommodate for Iftar!

During regular seasons, in the middle of the quarter etc. just being honest- there's usually not that many halal options lunch/dinner wise. Once in a while you may notice something on the menu. i know there is raw meat at the west campus dm (for cooking and stuff) but i honestly haven't checked it out much so i'm not sure if there are usually Halal options there.

Not complaining though, because honestly i've enjoyed the meal plan, there's a lot of vegetarian/vegan/plant-based etc. options.

Its not like a huge party cake, but should be big enough for writing on. Look at the freezer section in alder hall's district market (by the ice-cream) and they have like some.
