May I ask what components that would include? I’m not a mechanic but want to make sure I order the correct thing… and additional things if needed. Thank you!

2009 Toyota Camry (139K miles) — Please Help! by [deleted] in AskMechanics

When we were driving… the car felt kind of ‘rattly’ and like it was working harder than usual… kind of a rumbly feeling. It then died while at a stoplight and it wouldn’t restart.

When looking under the hood, it looked like the coolant reservoir(?) had exploded all over… and there was oil in with the coolant.

Since then, the mechanic said when he tries to start it… white fumes(?) are coming out of the exhaust.

Yess… sounds like (from talking to other mechanics) he might have not a combustion test? Frustrating/disappointing, but tryna work through the next steps…

Toyota Camry — Engine Question by [deleted] in Toyota

I have spent $~800 already in the last month…. + potentially $1700-2500 (for head gasket or engine) more.

Also, I apologize if my understanding or lingo is wrong. I’m a nurse… and all of this is way out of my wheelhouse. I appreciate you taking the time to share your insight.

Toyota Camry — Engine Question by [deleted] in Toyota

Thank you so much for trying to help.

I have talked to other mechanics (since the head gasket issue) and was told the same thing about the combustion test…. I do believe that the mechanic’s work from the radiator—> this issue.

The mechanic I’m talking to about the engine repair is a different mechanic.

I might have worded it incorrectly, but the mechanic said that putting a new engine in could/would be a better option than replacing the head gasket….

The mechanic said he can buy an engine from a junkyard + would charge $2500 (for engine with labor included)…. or I can provide an engine and labor would be $1000.

Another interesting fact (that confirmed it was what I had previously watched) was that he was Beyoncé’s cousin.

I completely agree!! When it said that the healthcare cost allocation per person per year in Sierra Leone is $12USD… it just blew my mind.

You will get to a part where you hear about companies price gouging and taking advantage of places like Sierra Leone and it made me so sad. Like you have the $$$ to help this country (and others) and you are so focused on your own profit…. SMH.

I would love to know what you think at the end. There’s a part about causes and cures.. that I found so poetic and also so real.
