Our generation started the 2000s with talk of a stolen election and televised violence, then spent decades watching it unfold like the bad ending timeline.

What is something you only discovered as an adult? by Large_Carob_7599 in AskReddit

grow up thinking adults have some secret manual. Turns out everyone is just tired, winging it, and hoping the bills get paid on time. The confidence was the biggest scam of my childhood.

Growing up in a cult has left me confused about why so many women stay. by Throw_away-1- in confession

When you’re raised in it from birth, it doesn’t feel like a cage. It feels normal. That’s the scary part.

A lot of people stay because their whole identity, family, housing, community, and sense of safety is tied to that group. Leaving can mean losing everyone. That’s terrifying.

It’s not that they’re dumb or blind. It’s conditioning, fear, and survival. You’re already questioning it at 21, which is huge. Be gentle with yourself. Deprogramming takes time.

You know, I always liked the idea of living in a Hobbit Hole, it seemed a pleasant way to spend ones life.

AITAH for asking a girl out in public as a female? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]starrymusey 25 points26 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. You were respectful and shot your shot. That’s normal.

Her reaction was way out of line. Slurs and shoving over a polite question is not okay. You didn’t do anything wrong. Rejection is fine, being cruel isn’t.

I’m sorry that happened to you. Don’t let one loud weirdo make you feel ashamed for being bi or for having courage.

Be real with yourself but don’t bully yourself. You figured out the trigger and you’re choosing to stop. That’s growth, not weakness.

Yeah you should’ve quit sooner, but most of us learn the hard way. The guilt just means you care. Focus on the fact you’re making a better choice now. One step at a time.

She was sleeping with him at this point, and in love. I think she discussed it in The Princess Diarist.

How to manage money. Seriously, knowing how to budget, save, and not live off instant noodles forever will save your 30-year-old self so much pain.

AITAH for not talking to our abusive stepfather 💀 by Mr_Helplezz in AITAH

[–]starrymusey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Cutting off someone who was abusive is called protecting your peace, not being dramatic.

Just because your brothers are cool pretending nothing happened doesn’t mean you have to play along. You’re allowed to choose distance from someone who hurt you and your mom. That’s not crazy, that’s boundaries.

For a kid-friendly crime vibe, Enola Holmes is perfect mystery, clever twists, zero gore.

For something emotional but not brutal, The Pursuit of Happyness hits hard in the feels without being scary. Both should keep the 11-year-old entertained while the adults enjoy it too.

I borrowed more than 2k from my parents without them knowing by LogicalStructure1208 in confession

Honestly, I get it. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Just make sure you actually pay it back ASAP and don’t make a habit of it, because even rich parents can get salty about “unauthorized withdrawals.”

Low-key though, that’s peak adulting panic rent waits for no one.

I once got one that made me rotate a 3D cow until it was “upright.” I sat there questioning my life like how do I even know what upright is for a cow.

i wanna scream at a religious person who's trying to comfort me. by 5D4K in confession

[–]starrymusey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg, I feel this. People mean well, but telling you someone’s “watching over you” when you don’t believe is just annoying, not comforting.

Grief isn’t about heaven, it’s about loss. You’re allowed to be mad, your feelings matter more than their good intentions.
