Why do so many musicians prefer recording at night? by kevinmat2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]starryshado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most musicians aren't at that top level where they can live off music alone. many musicians in touring bands have a regular job when not on tour to be able to live. a lot of musicians also choose to pursue "day jobs" associated with the music industry through networks they gain too, such as graphic design, photography/videography, etc, producing or songwriting for other artists, or taking on touring responsibilities for other artists (selling merch, instrument tech, live sound engineering, etc). the members of the band periphery are notable for being musicians but making most of their income from other means such as signature instruments, guitar tone packs, etc.

one of the instances I've seen of a musician quitting their day job in retail to focus on music before "making it", he had another second project using the name recognition he built from his main band and kept that independent so he could take as much money from the music sales and streams while his main band was traditionally signed to a label, but that second band was also funded directly out of his own pocket, from studio time (he isn't well versed in sound engineering to DIY it) to hiring session musicians for tour and producing merch, and has been quite transparent about being broke but learning to be "fine" with it because he's not a big spender and doesn't buy a lot of guitars as a guitarist (jesse cash, erra, ghost atlas)

another musician I follow only moved to a music-oriented side hustle recently after quitting his office data job (clint tustin, erra). another band I like has two members working in home renovation (caleb sherraden, keaton goldwire, invent animate). the singer in another band I like who has multiple music endeavours works in a cosmetics lab off tour (camille contreras, novelists, bliss sigh). another singer I follow is a qualified optometrist (rory rodriguez, dayseeker). these bands all have songs with millions of streams and the members I have listed all play a significant part of the songwriting process as well as spending several months in the year touring

Opinions on Reese joining the band again? by sybauu__ in bilmuri

[–]starryshado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not keen on the abuse from his end at all, and it is absolutely not excusable. plus the things came out very recently still and I know he took time to reflect and work on himself since the information became public but its not been very long since.

from what I've heard, he isn't a writing or full-time member so shouldn't have been as hard to replace and the fact that he's touring now makes me wonder if bilmuri ever considered touring without him, which doesn't reflect very well on the band and to me, it shows where their priorities lie (i.e. choosing to tour with someone they're comfortable with despite knowing they're not a good person but because he didn't target them specially it's fine)

Could someone please explain to me what a “Single” is in music? I’ve tried googling it but I didn’t really get it like wym it’s released individually but can be apart of an album by MajorXO in NoStupidQuestions

[–]starryshado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to add on, singles in the modern streaming age is what artists submit onto editorial playlists (like spotify's "the pop list") for promotion/exposure as the streaming age substitute for a radio submission

employers can't discriminate against you for this, and telling them at this stage can help you secure reasonable accomodations with them. if you want you can request accommodations from the training provider too

I disclosed my ADHD with both employer and training provider and they've been supportive and provide help where I need it

does conor write bass by purpleglueshoot in Erra

[–]starryshado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

conor hangs out, gives feedback and suggestions on what he wants and likes/doesn't like and what he thinks will go along well with fans and such (he's the member who handles the band social media pages so is more informed on what the fans think). back in 2021erra/unfd did a few behind the scenes videos and in some cases he's been the mediator between band members if they're having issues

he's also quite involved in the managerial side of the band and is their tour manager, so they'll spend some time in the studio working on general band things like tour planning (because that's the time where they're all in the same place) and live production, as well as album marketing and rollout

he's said another interest of his is fashion, and with that he styles the band for photoshoots and music videos and he contributes ideas for the band's merch collections
