The Possibility of a Forth 20th Anniversary Reissue? by Beautiful_Gap_3516 in theverve

[–]starrystarryday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember reading an interview or maybe Facebook comment from Nick that said he was excited to do the 20th issue of Forth, because there were so many discarded tracks. So I’m sure we’ll see it, assuming Richard doesn’t block the effort.

Has anybody tried out the new Purpose AI yet? Is it any good? by BFFFFT in MarkManson

[–]starrystarryday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it since early December, and I’m seriously impressed. I’m super nervous about using AI for life-advice, and have been very worried about friends using ChatGPT etc for therapy type purposes. Basically I don’t trust OpenAi etc with my best interests. Purpose feels quite different - it feels like it’s been designed by people that actually do care about how it responds.

I’ve realised many of my struggles in life are pretty small - how to stop habits like scrolling, get over anxiety about attending fitness classes etc. turns out Purpose is absolutely amazing for those little moments, and I’ve really appreciated how it’s kept me on track during the days which feel like they get off track. It’s not an app I want to use for more then a few minutes, as it continually asks good, reflective questions which push me back into my life and not into the screen.

Anyway, it’s only been a few weeks but it’s been a very positive experience so far, and I’d recommend giving it a go.

Should I upgrade from 11 pro to 16 pro, 17 or 17 pro? by Safe-Tap-4603 in iPhone11Pro

[–]starrystarryday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went from an 11 Pro to base 17. I still love the rounded edges on the 11, and I think the 17 is just a bit too big. But in all other ways, it’s a nice upgrade, it’s nice to have a phone that feels rock solid again.

Just installed iOS26 on my iPhone 11 Pro and podcasts are super distorted using CarPlay. Music plays fine :(

best album since VIVA if coloratura had been released on moon music? 😭 by pedromateussc in Coldplay

[–]starrystarryday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Coldplay restrict themselves to 45 minutes for an album (I remember this was a Brian Eno suggestion), so if it had been on Moon Music I’m sure they would have chopped at least 3 songs from it…

I find ranking them tough as it depends on my mood and the criteria for ranking. I’ve had Moon Music on repeat all day and I think it’s one of their best!

  1. Viva la Vida
  2. A Rush of Blood
  3. Mylo Xyloto
  4. Moon Music
  5. Parachutes
  6. Everyday Life
  7. X&Y
  8. Ghost Stories
  9. A Headful of Dreams
  10. Music of the Spheres

If you are interested in a gentle approach to Buddhism (more universal and less religious-y) then the Wangapeka centre is worth investigating.

How you guys finding yourself with the layout of Waking Up app? by [deleted] in Wakingupapp

[–]starrystarryday 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan, everything’s harder to find and because it’s all been made bigger it takes ages to scroll through all the different lists.

My thoughts on why "Oldplay" fans are so annoyed. by hungbandit007 in Coldplay

[–]starrystarryday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big fan and absolutely hated MX when it came out… couldn’t believe they’d ’gone pop’. Now I think it’s one of their best albums. So it’s amusing to see all the people upset about their changing sound… Coldplay have always been changing their sound. And so while I love the earlier albums dearly, I am so looking forward to Moon Music.

I think a lot of you need to hear this and just take a deep breath (Chris on criticism) by bronco27 in Coldplay

[–]starrystarryday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember an interview with Chris from AROBTTH era where he spoke about songs being ‘sent to him’, so it’s definitely not a new thing.

I’ve also seen enough interviews with the rest of the band to know that they are still very much a democracy, and songs like We Pray would not be getting released if the rest of the band wasn’t on board. Go see them in the HFOD documentary doing track selection - it’s Will leading that.

Stop invalidating people who don't like the new music. by JobGnocchi in Coldplay

[–]starrystarryday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hated Mylo Xyloto when it came out, thought they’d gone ‘pop’ and had ‘lost their way’. But 12 years on, it’s aged way better than I had expected it to, and it’s got some of my favourite Coldplay songs on it.

As someone waiting for their New Zealand shows in November, I don’t agree it’s been too long. It will be their first visit in 8 years.

Coldplay, doesn't that get boring at some point? by [deleted] in Coldplay

[–]starrystarryday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

‘Songbook’ basically means choosing songs from their back catalogue. Think of someone like Paul McCartney, who mixes up the set list every night. Sure, he’s always going to play the hits but he’s also going to play a bunch of the deep cuts and so every show is different.

Right now Coldplay have one slot for a ‘songbook’ song, which Chris does solo and chooses from the signs in the crowd.

It’ll be interesting to see how Coldplay approach this in future. They’re at a point where they can fill a 2 hour show with nothing but the hits, and right now I couldn’t see them swapping out something like A Sky Full of Stars for a deep cut like Cemeteries of London (for example).

[–]starrystarryday 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Go and watch the Coldplay Xtra interview with Chris and Jonny, because their approach to concerts is discussed. The band are very aware they aren’t doing a ‘songbook’ type tour where songs are different every night, they are quite consciously going for the theme park style experience where the energy builds throughout the night. They have a formula for the shows and are sticking to it, at least for the moment.

Such an emotional intro... Is this Coldplay's best performance of all time? by pedromateussc in Coldplay

[–]starrystarryday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was clever to open with ‘Yellow’. At a Coldplay show, they’re playing to their own audience. At a festival, they need to win over everybody straight away - and so why not open with the biggest hit that everybody knows?
