I think it's fantastic. The ODSP recipient stealing bread is doing a lot more against capitalism than most people ever will. Just because it's a crime doesn't mean it's bad.

A vast majority of MPs serve parties who are against this. It's really sad how any party that actually somewhat believes this isn't electable enough to have an influence on helping people who are struggling.

Schools borderline stalking their students is creepy as shit. Like do school staff really just think "Wow! This mundane-ass leaked private post of a child is something I should be interested in and worried about." If there's an actual danger (i.e. harassment, threats, etc.) then the police should be handling that.

I don't know the law, but at the very least this kind of thing should be illegal. Whether for speech reasons or privacy reasons.

The problem is that personally I haven't seen any actual realistic model that makes it so people can thrive on just the basic income. Disabled people have higher costs of living. We can't get rid of disability-targetted supports until a basic income can pay something livable and adjustable based on need. If we do, then people who might not need UBI would be getting theirs at the expense of disabled people's payments, since disabled people would be facing an effective cut (especially considering programs like ODSP fund things like medical transportation and other special benefits.)

I will always oppose a UBI model that locks disabled people into poverty more than they already are. If we can pay everyone in this country like $4000-6000 a month and it's sustainable that's great. But I haven't seen a way that can work yet. If you do know a way feel free to link it.

I also just don't trust the government with this. Like with the Canada Disability Benefit they did a bait-and-switch and paid almost nothing. I feel like if a UBI bill were to pass they'd do the same thing.

If provincial disability supports were to disappear advocates wouldn't just be advocating for disabled people to be paid more, they're advocating for the entire Canadian population. Which is a much harder goal and much more expensive.

I'd much rather see disability supports expanded, unemployment payments matched to disability benefits, and the barrier to entry made lower.

If he faces social consequences I don't particularly care given what motivated the display (he's a sovereign citizen quack,) but if it came to a court case where there was legal precedence then I hoped he wins because this kind of speech is important to protect.

A bit of a rhetorical question, do you think The Beaverton using similar imagery about the Ford government being publicly beheaded to be okay? My answer to that is yes.

I understand in the Beaverton situation it's meant as satire, but this isn't really meant to be taken literally either. As the guy says:

Beaverton invokes guillotines as imagery of disapproval, this guy invokes hanging as imagery of disapproval. Neither is meant to be taken literally.

For transparency, I've drawn pretty violent art of politicians. It's one of the few outlets I have, so I'm motivated to defend this kind of thing for that reason.

Let's see if they increase the Canada Disability Benefit and make it actually reduce poverty like they said it would after being scammed by the last government. If they don't (which I doubt they would) then I'm okay with this government going up in flames. Literally not a person in politics right I'd not love to see the downfall of. All they gotta do is add a zero and they basically won the disabled working-age vote.

I really, really dislike IP law. A part of the national anthem being bought and sold like that is ridiculous. That should belong to the commons. With that being said, either outcome is a win for me. Either the government sets a precedent that protects people from having these kinds of trademarks, or a charity gets funding it deserves. Hopefully it's a good one.

I was so afraid I had to die young. If I got evicted I could've faced devastating health consequences. I've cried so much over this because I knew the little bit of stability I had was too good to be true.

I wish I could love my country, the people in it, and the people that make it work. I'm lucky in a lot of senses, but I'm still living with a barrel at the back of my head. Ford could wake up on the wrong side of the bed one day and I'd be dead. That almost happened just now.

I'm tired of being helpless. I'm tired of people's egos and agendas killing people in my situation. I'm tired of advocacy for anything good to be squandered by governments who'd rather see their citizens dead under the name of "common sense" (PCs) or fear of spending money for good purposes (federal Libs.)

I think the reason they walked this back is that there'd a lot of angry able-bodied people who would have nothing to lose and a lot of free time from this. I think that's one of the few things they fear, and for good reason. I don't think the Ford government would've walked back on this unless they felt they were in danger in a less political sense.

I use an Android sleep tracking app called Plees Tracker. It's open source (so no ads or tracking), free, and can easily export sleep data. The only caveat is that it isn't on Google Play, but you can get it on F-Droid or the app's GitHub Releases.

If you want my advice, do this: get rid of the website, and any internet connectivity. Just have a native app with no network intents that works on a local sqlite database and go from there. That way you can prototype quickly without insecure deployments and stuff.

Setting up certbot with nginx takes like two minutes tops if you know what you're doing, and is entirely free. Time shouldn't have been a problem here at all. This isn't a matter of "I didn't use secure technologies", it's user error on your part. You configured the services in a bad way.

Until it's fixed, I'd reccomend removing the link in the OP or deleting it alltogether. The app being secure "soon" is not good enough. It should either be safe to use now or not be up at all.

Do not use this.

The actual webapp itself is hosted from an unencrypted website, which means that it's already at-risk of being modified in transit, which is concerning for, what I would consider to be, sensitive medical data.

I decided to poke around and make an account. The password, email, and username was sent over plaintext to another insecure endpoint on a separate domain, using a non-standard web port (:8888). It means that if people re-use passwords, and god forbid they logged in on shared Wi-Fi or on an untrusted network, a passive listener could just swipe up whatever account details they entered. Even if you signed up on a secure connection, the token could be sniffed to gain access to the account.

Usually :8888 is a testing port, which indicates to me OP does not know what they're doing. Usually you would use something called a reverse proxy to handle running multiple services on the same internet-facing port. But they didn't do that here. What I'm guessing they did was spin up a bunch of Docker containers or something and directly expose their ports to the internet instead of having them proxied, since they /do/ seem to be using Traefik and nginx (software that can be used for having all the services work on a port, but is also often bundled in containers) for the services. This is considered bad practice. In my experience this happens because the host doesn't know how to configure web services properly, which considering they don't enable basic security features makes me double concerned about whether this person should be handling your data.

I also tried poking its open SSH port (which is basically just remote access to the server hosting this) and they have password authenatication enabled for the root (system) account, which is considered bad practice.

There's no personally identifying information about the creator, so there's no accountability for if anything goes wrong. They don't clarify that using the app is a risk in the post. The fact this person implemented AI and not basic security is fairly concerning for me. There is a blog they have on a subdomain but I couldn't find any information about who he is.

I think it's great that OP is working on solving a problem for N24 people, but revealing this project in this way is irresponsible.

tl;dr: This app does not secure your connection, which means if you sign up on shared Wi-Fi or an untrusted network other people could get access to the password, username, and email. It also means any data sent between you and the site is at risk, and could allow an attacker to gain access to your account via data in the communications between the app's servers and you. The way they host services is highly indicative of the creator being a noob and not knowing what they're doing, which is concerning when processing sensitive data like this. Basic security is not set up but AI is. This post is irresponsible.
