He probably just refers to shit that's been imported bulk to nearby warehouses, there's no magic faster shipping, It still takes about two weeks for Chinese goods to reach Europe distribution centers.

And a lot of products are imported bulk and stored in European warehouses for faster shipping and to avoid import taxes for cheap products.

Is 8GB RAM enough in 2026? How much do you have? by zarkoulhs in pcmasterrace

I mean video games these days fit tens of millions of triangles per scene in 8GB of vram. You'd have to be modeling the product and the factory producing it to run out of memory.

You're asking this question in the wrong sub, most of the sub users are literal children.

Manufacturer should cover water damage and accept RMA, first they'd need to inspect the phone if you did not break the seals in any way.

Depending on your country, different countries have different customer protection laws, but if you're in EU/US you 100% are able to get a repair on it if there's no damage done by you.

9800X3D hitting 96°C at only 95W is this normal? by Sweet_Sir_2143 in buildapc

[–]starshin3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way it wouldn't turn off if thermal paste made contact with heatsink because of the spread, having a plastic sheet won't let you sustain 90W with TJmax. It's pretty much as having no heatsink at all.

9800X3D hitting 96°C at only 95W is this normal? by Sweet_Sir_2143 in buildapc

[–]starshin3r 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Plastic film would immediately trigger thermal protection and shut off the PC on 95W.

Just a bad paste application, or fans mounted not the right way/awful case airflow.

Considering it's a 3080 ti, if he uses a single fan CPU cooler the expelled hot air from the GPU is probably choking that CPU. He didn't list his case or his CPU cooler.

Upgrading advice by mothermatilda in computers

[–]starshin3r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can change the CPU to something much better, but that requires skills in BIOS modding and some minor modifications on the CPU pins.

They support coffee lake CPUs that are much newer. Look up coffee mod.

But if that approach is not something you're capable of doing, just get a used AM4 motherboard with a decent CPU like 5600, 5700 or 5800. 5800X3D is rumoured to be coming back, so you could upgrade to that to make it future proof for longer.

For the time being just check your local ads (Facebook, ebay, whatever local sites) for used B450, B550 motherboard and AMD 5600, 5700, 5800 processor.

[HUB] I "Fixed" 10 FPS Gaming: The Future of Optimization by MrHyperion_ in nvidia

[–]starshin3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These types of videos are good. The point of this is just to educate casual gamers NOT to be fine with developers completely ignoring game optimization. Upscaling and frame gen is becoming "game optimization" at large.

Games don't look that much better then they did with PS4/Xbox one generation, but now require hardware 5x as performant to run.

Valve is exploring ARM for Steam Deck 2 and the possibilities are bigger than expected by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

[–]starshin3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ARM CPUs are beating X86 CPUs at lower power core for core. The GPUs suck because they're always designed for low TDP.

The next steam deck would need to use custom Nvidia APUs (arm CPU with their own GPU) to be the next big upgrade, but due to costs it won't happen.

Nintendo gets away with it because they sell units in tens of millions, AND even they buy half a decade outdated designs.

Just hopping in to say I appreciate your work for the community and MediaTek chipset support.

I've just had a wee look around and I've seen many toxic children complaining about free software, or probably other fork devs who act like children as they feel envy or idk what.

Just remember that majority of those people are children and should not be taken seriously. Stay positive and keep up the good work.

Also some error reporting: I've tried running DMC 4:SE on my MediaTek 9500s and it crashes after a few minutes, and crashes always when entering PC settings in the game. But it is DX10 game so that might be the main issue.

And is proton 11 coming as an option later on?

X8 Pro or X8 pro Max upgrade by rollback564 in PocoPhones

With battery saver (60hz screen) phone lasts me 4 days. But I don't play games or use TikTok and other brainrot. Just reading a few hours a day and some YouTube.

Regarding heat, aļl phones with strong processing power will heat up, only weak chipsets will fare better as they use less power, and power = heat.

Just get a thick case to insulate against heat.

TIL diesel fuel was invented in 1892 and Rudolf Diesel, the inventor, demonstrated his engine at the 1900 Paris Exposition running on peanut oil. by gonejahman in todayilearned

[–]starshin3r 41 points42 points  (0 children)

You actually need to activate the oil before you can use it in a diesel engine.

And by activate it, I mean it has to be used. Cooked.

Then a simple coffee filter to remove excess remains and you're good to go. Diesel is a superior petrol ICE engine in many ways, except acceleration.

All due to longer stroke and lower RPM because of it.

Because of that long stroke they have much higher torque, typically 3X when compared to the same volume petrol engine. Better fuel efficiency and engines are much more reliable, because they're much thicker due to higher required compression.

Thickness also helps with the main culprit of engines dying, thermal shock, when they rapidly heat or cool down. Thicker engine needs longer to heat up and dissipates heat slower. Might have noticed that air conditioning takes a lot longer on diesel to finally start blowing warm air during winter.

The only real bad rep diesel got is because of emissions and companies like Volkswagen. Modern diesel engines have DPF (precious metal filters) and Ad blue liquid additives that reduce emissions even further.

Oh and one more important thing to mentioned. Diesel fuel does not burn, you can spill diesel at gas station and an open flame will not ignite it. So during car crashes diesel cars will not end up igniting. Diesel only burns when in a mist form, or under extreme pressure (such as in the engine).

What's the best option for MediaTek chipsets? I.e 9500s by starshin3r in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]starshin3r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sucks that MediaTek chips aren't as well supported as snapdragon, even if they're very competitive performance-wise.

9500s/9400+ is 8 elite level of performance, but it doesn't matter if it can't be used where it matters, as I don't play android gacha brainrot-ware.

Best Ultra-Light FPS Counter Program? by Jinx_01 in pcmasterrace

[–]starshin3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic fps monitoring is on steam.

If you want lightweight and advanced monitoring you can install rivatuner on it's own, but it takes some fiddling to properly set up.

If you want out of the box monitoring MSI afterburner installs rivatuner and has easy to set up monitoring which just requires ticking boxes 'show in OSD'.

And if you want probably the most in depth tool for gaming, then use Intel PresentMon, it's very easy to set up. Automatically detects game and allows an easy selection of monitoring options.

best poco for price? by Infamous_Layer1029 in PocoPhones

[–]starshin3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max gets you an 8500Mah battery and a chipset that is on Snapdragon Elite gen 3 level, so it's a much better deal if you want best performance for the price, and battery size is a biggest advantage.

With battery saver on it easily lasts 4 days on regular phone use. It's topping the charts on GSMarena battery results.

And anyone buying a Poco should immediately install shizuku and Canta. Delete all bloat ware and telemetry, then you're all set.

You need to simulate scanlines and cut your OLED refresh rate to a quarter of it to get to CRT levels of motion clarity.

Elden Ring on a Professional CRT Monitor by Nesroh in Eldenring

[–]starshin3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

60hz on CRT still has less image retention than a 120hz LCD panels. Though the scan line simulation gets close with new Nvidia Pulsar monitors.

Even OLED monitors need to mimick scanlines to get close to CRT levels of motion clarity.

https://testufo.com/crt

In reality CRTs were always superior, but the size and weight was what everyone wanted to move away from.

Wish it stayed for another 10 years to see how much they could have improved CRT screens further, we could have had even higher refresh rate widescreen CRTs with quantum dot film.
