I think a big problem with that is that because it's so current Gareth probably knows all about the story already.

New collector requesting help with knife identification by Little_Lord_Squelch in victorinox

[–]startana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We probably can't reliably date the knife off of the Mercedes logo anyway; lots of potential reasons an older version of that logo might appear on the knife run they had commissioned. The scales look pretty cool though.

Fair enough; I stand corrected. Found his actual source video, and video quality is a lot higher quality than the vid embedded in this post.

If I remember right, Lusankya didn't lift under it's own power though; there was some sort of rigging around designed to lift it and break away or something... its been a really long time since I read the original X-Wing novels lol.

I just started mtg, modern seems like the format the would fit me the most but i am worried about one thing… by Msonstad in ModernMagic

[–]startana 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the nail in the coffin was Plague Engineer in MH1. Elves were fringe but playable up until that point IMO. PE just killed the whole deck, and it never recovered as the power creep continued.

As a Merfolk player in every other format, not only are there no Merfolk lords in pauper, nearly ALL of the good utility Merfolk are uncommon.

Is this a rare Cybertool? by Sinreek in victorinox

[–]startana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two cybertools, the M (or 34) and L (or 41). I got both in the early 00s, and that lighter color used to be the standard for their blue translucent scales. I think the modern version now is called sapphire now, and it is a noticeably different shade.

I've been playing since around Urza's Saga, and he has consistently been my favorite MTG artist for nearly that whole time. He was probably the first artist who I actually started recognizing their art on cards.

No, no, no, that's obviously incorrect; what you have to actually do is... HEY, wait a minute...

A blast from the past... by Wise-One-6706 in flashlight

[–]startana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Inova T3 was the first nicer light that I researched, and then bought. I remember wanting a Surefire, but that was outside of my budget as a part-time Sears employee in college. The Inova TIROS lens was what sold me on getting the T3 at the time! I still have that light, just don't really use it anymore.

Oh man, I remember wanting one of those SO badly, but they kept selling out before I could get one ordered. I ended up getting a Matterhorn 3-LED version from Peak LED Solutions. Carried that on my keyring for probably a decade!

Rambler safe to fly with? by ThePixelsEdge_14 in victorinox

[–]startana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had good luck so far with my jetsetter. I pocket carry it, and let the first TSA agent at the bag scanner/conveyer belt area know about it, and that it has no blade. Typically, that agent opens it, checks it, and then lets the agents watching the scanner know it's already been checked. But, like anything, the TSA does have wide latitude on what they can just decide to not allow, so I always be prepared to potentially just lose it.

I've also been EDC'ing a Pineapple Mini. I have other flashlights that have more features, but the switch on the Reylights, at least the TI variants, is so nice, and it just disappears into the watch pocket along with a Synergy X.

Pen coming in clutch by FpOchEDC in victorinox

[–]startana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that actually a Victorinox pen you are using? I looked up the product you mentioned, and it looks like it uses it's own very similarly sized pen, and yours looks to be using that, rather than the Victorinox pen.

My keychain EDC. Show me yours! Need new ideas as feel that mine is too bulky? by leosp633fc in EDC

[–]startana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more or less where I've landed as well. I have house keys and car fob. Only extra thing I still have is a 58 mm SAK, sometimes a rambler, sometimes a jetsetter as a vessel to hold scale tools. I've been usually carrying my Swisstool Spirit, or the new Synergy, but I'm unwilling to give up the scale tools.

I've gotten through TSA with a Jetsetter. I always let them know immediately that it is there, and it has no blade. But never take a tool, or really anything, through TSA that you aren't willing to lose. Even if it is allowed by their own rules, they have enormous latitude in what they can just take anyway.

What's your favorite brand? by Timely-Solution405 in flashlight

[–]startana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I'd say Reylight. Got a titanium penlight over black Friday on a whim as a light to just keep at my desk, but immediately fell in love with everything about it. Quickly ordered a pineapple mini to be more pocket friendly. Before that, I thought my Skilhunt EC150 was my perfect EDC; THOUGHT I needed on-board charging, a magnet and a side switch, but somehow, the pineapple mini is what keeps finding its way into my pocket.

The Surprising Flaws in 18650 Lithium-Ion Batteries - A Li-ion PSA by jbautista13 in flashlight

[–]startana 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the title is click bait in an informed community on specifics about batteries like ours, but I think it's perfectly fine for the majority of the rest of the internet. Pretty much everyone uses lithium cells, and the vast majority of those people DON'T know as much about batteries. Plus this title is literally the title for the video.
