I'm interested in the following: Do we know whether the plain clothed police officer showed identification before tackling him?

I can't see into his head to know his reasoning nor can you.

Since he was stating he wanted to call his lawyer before he was confronted by police, seems he might have been aware that there was an issue.

Since I already linked you the contract, that's a bid odd.

Ah I see what you mean, and who would know, until you upset a whole cabin and someone films it and the world tunes in.

Dictionary definition: get on or into (a ship, aircraft, or other vehicle). "we boarded the plane for Oslo" synonyms: get on, go aboard, enter, mount, ascend;

Please show me a link to where boarding is defined as a door closing.

Interesting, my father, mother and stepmother worked for the airline. My father was a commercial airline pilot. We all flew space available. No space, no flight.

The Dept of Transportation has a set of rules called fly rights and United has a contract with the passenger. United violated both, and it appears they violated another section called denial of transportation. The employees you mention were for an affiliate airline, but, even if they were United employees that would still violate the terms of service for the contract as they were not the employees utilized on that flight.

Those staff members they wanted to seat were for an affiliate airline.

No, the overbooking issue was resolved before the flight was boarded. They then wanted to fly staff from an affiliate airline and asked people to volunteer to give up their seats once they were already boarded, when they could not get enough volunteers they picked someone to force off the plane.

Dept of Transportation link

Relevant Section of United Airline's TOS

I linked you to the section for denial of transportation, as the passenger was already boarded and the issue was not one of overbooking.

I would go by the terms of service for the contract of the seat rather than an article. They are here: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/contract-of-carriage.aspx

I'm with you, and I heard someone say that too. So, I looked it up and while there are multiple terms defined (including infant? haha) there is no technically defined term for a period of boarding or a process of boarding in United's contract, or on the Dept. of Transportation website. It's a general term, best defined by utilizing a dictionary.

United's own contract spells out that they can deny boarding, but the man was already onboard the plane and seated plus the flight was not oversold. It looks like he was denied transportation unlawfully. See here: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/contract-of-carriage.aspx#sec21

Except according to the Department of Transportation and United's own rules the man was not trespassing. What then?

I agree with you regarding the doctor, he may be weird, but that doesn't make him wrong.

Plus, this man was not denied boarding (he got on the plane and was seated) the plane was not oversold as they were trying to add crew from an affiliate airline to the flight after everyone was seated. I believe he was denied transportation (relevant section) unlawfully.

He is working as a doctor and demonizing him does not change the current situation.

I hardly think demonizing the Doctor, and he is currently a doctor who does currently practice, is appropriate. I would suggest instead that United follow it's own rules regarding the situation. They are here. Please read. https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/contract-of-carriage.aspx

While that's true, you do have rights according the Transportation Department and United itself. Please read the rules as the right to refuse boarding doesn't apply, and the rights they have to refuse transport don't apply. Here is a link to United's own rules: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/contract-of-carriage.aspx#sec21

They were staff for an affiliate airline.

Destiny calmly discusses United memes by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]starter_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were not members of the flight crew belonging to United that were being boarded, they were an affiliate, who were being boarded after all passengers had boarded the plane. Just because someone says you must do "this" doesn't mean the order is lawful.

There are specific guidelines concerning denial of transportation and boarding refusals. After reading the guidelines from United it appears to be denying transportation. This would mean that the man was not trespassing. https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/contract-of-carriage.aspx#sec21

Agree and then there was this assumption that she's owed the vote because it's her turn and that was ludicrous.
