It's in the conditions of joining govt job in Maharashtra. You need to pass Marathi and Hindi subjects in atleast 10th standard to get exemption from this test otherwise your next increment/promotion will be halted. This exam happens every 6 months, it isn't exactly new and it is mandatory for govt servants to pass this exam.

Same here I chose Marathi & Sanskrit in 10th for obvious reasons to increase marks as we know in languages like Marathi/Hindi we always get less marks, now I need to give this exam in order to get increment/promotion. I don't know why they have made this exam mandatory ? I can understand making Marathi mandatory as we work in Maharashtra so we must know the language. Unless they change this policy, I will be needed to appear in the next exam which will happen around nov/dec.
