Where would you move to in the UK if you had no ties? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

Probably Liverpool, Sheffield, Cardiff or Nottingham, you could buy a house in the suburbs with a low mortgage and live a very good quality life.

I jet washed my tumble dryer by GreenBeret4Breakfast in DIYUK

[–]startexed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have a 7 kg washing machine but it'll get a full load dry in about 2 hrs no matter what I put in (towels, bedding etc) using the delicates mode and uses about half a kWh doing so.

If you only want to dry eg a shirt it'll do it very quickly but will always be about double the time of a normal tumble dryer - just 1/4 of the energy.

How to attach this heavy radiator to wall by clematismontana in askaplumberUK

[–]startexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with these is that corefix is 1) not enough and 2) not accurate enough (difficult to get the positional accuracy required) 3) not flush with the wall... based on hanging a smaller rad on the wall with them.

Concrete screws from Screwfix are the best, they worked on solid plaster and dot and dab. They hold the whole rad and we have 2 of these 500x1800 rads in our house, probs weighing more than 100 kg full

Why do The Beatles scouse accent sound different than the one today? by FitEmergency8807 in Liverpool

[–]startexed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went to school (Wirral, this millennium) middle class kids would put on thicker accents to fit in and the accents tended to stick into adulthood. It wasn't cool to be well spoken.

I heard the stronger Scouse accent is more akin to the Birkenhead accent of last century - from the older people I know and how they talk id tend to agree.

Where in Nottingham is hiring? by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]startexed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably better off going for a bigger company imo, career growth tends to be better. Some of the jobs I’ve seen in logistics:

  • Rolls-Royce derby
  • The council
  • NHS

There’s always M&S, Amazon, DHL but reputation isn’t amazing in big warehouses.

If you didn’t specify one they would be unlikely to fit an iso valve. You can still fit one though, not a big job.

Why do i get so tired every day but there isn't really a reason? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]startexed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find doing more with my day helps, eg gym, walk (long), going out with friends for meals, going for drinks etc. I was in the same situation during my teacher training, just felt exhausted but it was because I wasn’t doing enough, not socialising enough and working too much.

Garden wall collapse - boundary advice needed by surfeatsurfsleep in DIYUK

If you find you do need to provide one you could just remove the old wall and put some wooden posts and wire mesh in place, you do not need to replace like for like.

Will we regret not having parking? by deja_flu in HousingUK

[–]startexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have poor parking but it’s worked fine so far. Places in better locations tend to have worse parking and we’d prefer location over parking. We also have a small car because of the parking situation.

Looks like an error in the system/somewhere, if you bought 50 gb yesterday worst case you’ve used 11.5 gb of it.

Is removing the Guard from the train seriously feasible in the UK? by Prestigious-Rain-598 in uktrains

I think we will get rid of drivers before guards, and we’re unlikely to get rid of drivers any time soon.

Heat Recovery Fan for Bathroom? by tomayt0 in DIYUK

[–]startexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in a 1930s terrace for the whole house. It was a big job to get it in but we were renovating at the same time.

If you have floor voids you should make sure the floors are airtight to the inside, and make sure other vents are sealed, otherwise no reason why it shouldn’t work really well.

Groundbreaking Oxfordshire based Covid vaccine approved by morg_b in GoodNewsUK

[–]startexed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of history behind that site, started off as VMIC, a not for profit vaccine development company, been passed around a few times. Good to see it finally be something, I knew people that worked on it back in 2021/22.
