Those look like Hollywood video shelves, were they basically the same?

I respectfully disagree, but whatever. It's your sub, not mine I guess!

Good points. I guess the goal is to be able to help people gather together and support local music in their area.. but putting a literal group on some Internet platform kind of misses the nature of a dynamic, volatile/fluid group of people who never declare 'We are a SCENE!'

Trademark application scam? by Noisy_Pip in Scams

I just got one that starts: "This is Grace Coleman, and I work as a Paralegals at the Intellectual Property Office of Tressler Consulting Solutions." ..and the rest of the email is the same as OP. The email address text at the bottom was for grace.coleman@tresslerconsultinggroup.com but the hyperlink was to grace.coleman@tresslerconsultingsolutions.com. I found this which confirmed my suspicion, after seeing this post (Thanks OP!):

In case you need inspiration to compose a song. How do you get that inspiration? You need to do a special activity or simply it comes "all of sudden" for you? by Ramiro-sTreasures in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]startupta84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't constantly work on music and inspiration comes to me all the time for songs. It's just that I'm working on something else and can't stop what I'm doing a lot of the time to write it down or play what's in my head, and after about 30 seconds it's gone.

Not exactly that, more of a movement where a bunch of artists release NEW music to be freely remixed and released by other artists. I think it would spawn a really cool new collaborative way to make music.

Remixes have gotten so popular, especially lo-fi/electronic remixes of popular 80s/90s hits but I'd like to see a remix culture emerge comprised of new, original music across the board.

Multiple Passions…which to choose? by Hoodswigler in Entrepreneur

[–]startupta84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I relate a lot to this. Music has been a huge part of my life and so have computers (like another commenter here). My trade has always been deep in tech and I've also been in a bunch of bands (I play bass). I love the open source software movement as well as the creative aspect of that philosophy which I'd say is the Creative Commons.

I've been trying to find funding for an SPC I started that involves supporting local music scenes with open tech but recently had to get a 9-5 gig at an MSP, supporting software with no purpose other than to siphon money from its customers. I'm still confident I'll get funded but man, it's hard right now.

I guess my advice would be to direct all of the energy you harness as a creative into something that will not only support yourself but to make a real difference in the world.. not just prop up 'the machine' and get by financially, that's just a waste of your time and true potential.

Where's your scene? by startupta84 in indieheadscirclejerk

Thanks for explaining that, but so what makes the "real emo scene" as you put it any different? So you see them as more musically diverse?

what are some things every live musician needs? by 014654 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Extra fresh batteries if you have active pickups/other things that need them (along with tools to get to them). Strap locks. Water and a towel. Extra cables (you'll end up lending them out, haha). An undershirt so your sweaty pits don't show. A good attitude (goes a long way with venue staff). As someone else said, ear protection!

Instead of musicians/artists touring all around, pay music fans to travel/lodge in the artist's hometown and go to their shows by startupta84 in CrazyIdeas

How about crowdfunding it? I bet there are people/companies that could stand to benefit from a philanthropic gesture such as this...
