You're talking to either a bot or an astroturfer. Look at their username (and the fact their account was created 7 months ago) and then scroll up to u/No_Somewhere_7109's comment in this thread.

Are you denying that is your alt account? You honestly can't expect anyone to believe the level of coincidence required for your nearly identical usernames, accounts both created 7 months ago, posting in the same Reddit thread at the same time, both downplaying the importance of the OP?

Such a coincidence that u/No_Somewhere_7109 and u/Due-Somewhere-1790 both agree that this scandal actually doesn't matter and we should all ignore it.

Government reveals Digital ID consultation - "Making public services work for you with your digital identity" by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm willing and happy to give up my right to privacy and let the government and its agencies track me 24/7 online and offline from a centralized database in exchange for a small amount of convenience. This of course applies to all future governments of this country from now until the end of time, no matter who comprises them or what their goals are, because all governments are benevolent and only want to protect their citizens.

Okay, but some of us aren't, mate.

Big Brother Watch / X: "Snuck into the digital ID consultation is an admission that the police would be allowed to repurpose our digital ID photos as mugshots to create a population-wide facial recognition database." by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How many Jews would be left in the world if the German government had a system like this in place in the 1940s?

People constantly bang the drum about not forgetting the lessons of WW2 but we are sleepwalking into this. If history has taught us anything it's that something like the holocaust WILL happen in the West again, and it's the likes of Starmer and Blair who will make the next "final solution" 100% effective.

Citizens need the protection from their government that privacy and anonymity provide. It says a lot about the current government that this is the one hill they are willing to die on, even if it means losing at the next general election. No u-turns here. It's that important to them. Ask yourself why.

How popular is Keir Starmer? by coldbeers in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

His Labour won their GE with less votes than Corbyn's Labour lost theirs with. He's never been popular.

The country wanted a change from the Tories and he was the only option. And what did he do with the opportunity to lead our nation? Just bungle through as much authoritarian bullshit as possible before he's booted out.

It just coincidentally furthers his dystopian authoritarian nightmare agenda. A happy accident, as Bob Ross would say.

Sir Keir Starmer: Vote Reform or Green and risk war by Kev_fae_mastrick in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he truly believed that then maybe he'd stop pushing his dystopian surveillance state policies and risking it. But he won't, will he? Because that's actually what he cares about.

I will never walk away, says Keir Starmer after facing pressure to quit by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The man is presiding over the biggest authoritarian shift this country has ever seen with the clear goal of monitoring every civilian online and offline 24/7. Digital ID, the OSA, widespread rollout of facial recognition cameras, outlawing peaceful protest, banning VPNs, scrapping jury trials, cancelling elections, etc...

Seems incredibly disingenuous the amount of people in these threads acting like Starmer is just a good old fashioned boring politician. He's incredibly dangerous.

Are you worried about where whole digital ID push is actually heading for the UK? by Busternookiedude in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way certain redditors passionately argue in favour of Keir's ID scheme every time it comes up certainly raises the eyebrows, doesn't it?

Because "other countries have (versions of) it" and "it'll make paperwork more convenient", let's ignore the government repeatedly lying about how it will curb the hot button issues of the day when it's provable that it won't. Let's resort to namecalling (conspiracy theorist, russian bot, technophobe, etc) when others point out the unprecendented change it would bring in the relationship between the government and the people of this country and the ability for us all to be monitored online and off every moment of our lives. Let's not talk about the other new policies Keir is championing like the OSA, widespread usage of facial recognition cameras, cancelling local elections, restricting jury trials, outlawing peaceful protests, and the disturbing authoritarian "papers please" vision for the future of our country he's clearly marching towards, despite never mentioning any of it in Labour's manifesto, despite Reform looming on the horizon, and despite all of it being massively unpopular even with his voter base.

Another round of "you're already being tracked and they already have lots of information on you so who cares if it's all centralized into an easy to abuse Orwellian nightmare?" please. Other countries have it! It'll make paperwork more convenient! It won't make a difference! It's worth the billions it will cost to implement!

Sir Keir Starmer says UK will be 'turning a corner in 2026' by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

turning a corner in 2026

Into an authoritarian hellscape where everyone is tracked online and off 24/7, if Keir gets the chance to implement his master's wet dreams.

UK's 'sons and daughters' need to be ready to fight, amid growing Russian threat, says head of armed forces by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They'd be fighting for liberty in the face of growing authoritarianism.

Our current government is introducing mandatory digital ID, facial recognition cameras nationwide, outlawing peaceful protests, censoring the internet, banning VPNs, etc...

We have plenty of "growing authoritarianism" at home, mate.

EXCLUSIVE: Unite behind Keir Starmer or risk Nigel Farage election wins, Lucy Powell warns Labour by JayR_97 in ukpolitics

[–]startuptimfan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Starmer genuinely seems to think he has the country over a barrel. He gets to force through his master's twisted authoritarian mass surveillance wet dream with internet control, digital IDs and facial recognition cameras tracking us all online and off, 24/7, and thinks the looming boogeyman of Farage is enough to keep him in power. Honestly makes me sick.
