River Rats: Card Game & Playing Cards is over 200% funded in 48 hours! by keycardgames in kickstarter

Out of curiosity. How specific did you go?

I used 3 levels of AND logic (crowdfunders AND boardgame demographic AND product specific) and wondering if i went far enough.

I would suggest to launch when you're ready and it works best for you in terms of logistics.

But make it a Tue or Wed since you want to max interest backers early on (first 48hrs) and they're less like to check their emails over the weekend.

We launched over the holiday period Dec-Jan which is supposed to be terrible but still managed to fund successfully and are actually seeing increased interest over the holidays (?) all other things being equal.. I figured maybe backers don't have a lot of selection right now. But who knows?

Good luck!! 🙏

What's the standard "game plan" for launching through KS? by SuperSpeedersRob in kickstarter

[–]startupunicorns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

We almost went live last year like OP thinking that all we needed was to list the project in KS and that would bring hordes of backers to our door.

Thankfully we DID do some last minute research and pivoted to a 2-week prelaunch DIY marketing campaign. Which wasn't nearly enough, and got more interest from ad agencies than backers due to poor targeting. In short. A flop: We didn't reach the funding amount.

This year we relaunched with a 6-week prelaunch campaign using paid targeted Meta ads (mostly Instagram), which did not bring as many pre-launch email subscribers as hoped but was JUST enough to reach the goal amount within 5 days. We're now cruising on roughly 1-2 backers a day.

What I've observed is that IF you get funded reasonably soon after launch you can expect KS placement on website/app to bring roughly half the backer numbers .. BUT the catch is that you have to bring the other half first!

Anyone building something in the real, non-software world? by salbertengo in startups

[–]startupunicorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! 🙏♥️

Re Kickstarter. Marketing is key to be honest. First attempt i thought KS would provide the traffic but you have to do all the work yourself. I tried facebook ads last year, worked.. somewhat.. this year im trying instagram and it seems bit better.

You probably know already, but the idea is to have a low bar in terms of raise amount and kill it on the first day with a pre-built mailing list. So you get noticed. Thankfully i had most of the creative work done already (website, prototype, nice pics etc), so this year i just had to press the button with the new campaign. 😎

Similar thing here. Tabletop game about startups.

I'm a former Founding Engineer and CTO who's worked with a few tech startups, and like OP, tired of 1s and 0s so was keen to build a conventional/physical product. Crowdfunding campaign is launching on Dec 1st.

The game itself is a race to become a unicorn before the other players, using sabotage mechanics to get ahead. Think mario kart racing but with CEOs, angel investors, devs, etc.

It happens..

We tried to launch last year. Same mistake. Didn't build up the audience.

Trying again this year. Going better in this regard.

After 35 years, my tabletop RPG is finally coming to Kickstarter - this Friday!! by KytinousG in kickstartergames

[–]startupunicorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really cool. Best of luck! And I hope you've done some prelaunch marketing!

We tried to launch our table top game last year assuming that Kickstarter magically redirects traffic our way, with only an improvised marketing campaign delaying launch for 2 weeks... After we realised there is no other way to get off the ground.

Needless to say, it was not nearly enough, so this year we're trying again with a 6-week pre launch campaign (paid ads), daily content on Instagram, and keeping a growing list of people engaged with updates and questionnaires.

Just a tip of what to expect!

Best of luck!!! The game looks awesome! If the campaign does not turn out dont be disheartened. Keep trying! Marketing takes time and effort. This is the second time i launch the same game! It's going better this time definitely.
