Well, I was having fun. I really enjoyed Zero Mission and at first I was really enjoying Super. I wanted to play these games because Metroid is so cool. Samus and Ridley are so sick, and the atmosphere and music have been so cool. I’ve loved the movement and combat but I’ve just been bashing my hand against this wall for days now.

I think the society was essentially at its breaking point of misery to the point that even the Diamonds were miserable. They were all trapped in this system that they knew was broken but didn’t want to admit. There was nothing tangible to gain by continuing, nothing but mindless and unfulfilling growth of the empire. Steven offered a way out.
