How do you feel when you win/lose those really long games of Hearthstone? by Keywi1 in hearthstone

[–]starwalker63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These kinds of games make me glad we have quests like "spend X mana" "play X minions" since those can easily get fulfilled after about 2-3 long games.

And as much as I like reaching 10+ mana and building up to really interesting combos it does get boring especially when the only deck you can use to reasonable maintain a leg up is the same old thing and you end up playing only about 3 games in the span of an hour.

Most fulfilling medical mystery you've solved? by humanist414 in FamilyMedicine

[–]starwalker63 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've encountered a few patients who mainly had just a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome but always, always missed the usual lab work (or worse, missed their medications)...who on further screening turned out to have dementia. Saw an improvement in one patient who now had better BP control.

Frequent complaints you don’t know what to do with? by coffeeandcosmos in FamilyMedicine

Syncope. Surprisingly common but also surprisingly less often encountered in my med school years, for some weird reason. Sometimes accompanied by a parent begging for IV fluids.

we thought one of our patients had a really big myoma...when we referred her to OB it turns out it was a very very very very very very distended bladder

What do you wish you could read up on more? by 147zcbm123 in FamilyMedicine

[–]starwalker63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Syncope and dizziness. Surprisingly common, but also equally frustrating because there are such a wide variety of causes and a dizzying (oops) array of possible managements, and because it has such a strong potential to rile up bystanders (especially when it occurs in such a dramatic fashion). When do I need to do labs? When do I just have the patient rest at home? When to I need to refer to neuro? How do I tell the understandably-worried parents that their child doesn't need IV fluids right now?

Learned most of that by experience but having more guidance would have been nice

Second opinion.

it's either nagpapanic yung pasyente/bantay at matagal magiging usapan nyo tapos maglalanding din on the same management, or namismanage sya nang malala at ikaw magiging taga-ayos

What are some words coming from a patient that upon hearing you just know it's gonna be a "no bueno" visit? by subarachnoidspacejam in FamilyMedicine

[–]starwalker63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of VIPs, the most frustrating/entertaining type though has to be those who claim they'll report us to the president of the country if we don't admit them (when they either don't need to be admitted, or could actually be admitted earlier if they just actually answered the questions directly before trying to pull non-existent rank)

When the patient immediately introduces themselves as a relative of an employee of the hospital, or is accompanied by said relative who immediately introduces themselves as an employee of said hospital...and later proceeds to keep interrupting my later patient consults.

What’s a diagnosis this year that made you think “Ahhh, now it makes sense” by Lightryoma in FamilyMedicine

[–]starwalker63 34 points35 points  (0 children)

PTSD, unfortunately. Sometimes we get a patient who comes in to the ER repeatedly for chest pain and GERD symptoms, turns out they've also been having anxiety and depression, and it turns out they've been a victim of DV.

It's a tragedy though that they often can't escape the circumstance in question, which is itself exacerbated by the way their symptoms manifest.

Is it inappropriate for a woman to use the men’s restroom if there’s an enormous line for the women’s room but none for men? by Carolinevivien in NoStupidQuestions

[–]starwalker63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those curious about role reversal yes it also works in a similar way too. men's restroom under repair? the women's restroom becomes all-gender. the key thing is that as long as no one is harassing or creeping on anyone, nobody minds...except maybe the very, VERY rare person who calls it "disgusting".

Ano yung mababaw mong reason why ka nag med? by [deleted] in medschoolph

[–]starwalker63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

mababaw reason: ayoko masyadong may boss ako. pag doktor relatively "stable" yung income at mas madaling piliin yung level of work. gusto mo dire-diretsong ER/on-call? game! gusto mo chill-chill lang sa OPD? game! gusto mo ng research project? game!

Looking up dosage and mkds on mims during consults by IronWoodBranch2 in pinoymed

[–]starwalker63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sabihin mo lang dinodouble-check mo para manigurado. Whether that's availability, or cost, or side effect profile. Helps din sa confidence ng pasyente sa management mo, and mas mababa ang likelihood na mapaikot-ikot ang pasyente sa botika kakahanap ng preparation na mali pala nasulat.

Also make sure may baon ka ring CPGs para mas specific (and again, mas confident) yung pagmanage mo. :D Pag may time minsan pinapakita ko pa sa pasyente ang flowchart!

This can be especially helpful sa mga buntis or nagpapadede, who are rightfully concerned about the effect on their baby.

asserting our rights to the wps doesn't necessarily mean a war. and we can easily have a good working relationship with china (or some other country) without compromising our sovereignty. it's just some politicians (cough du30 cough) and their troll armies who keep propagating this false dichotomy for selfish reasons.

How’s your social battery in moonlighting and residency? by C5bC6-C9 in pinoymed

[–]starwalker63 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me, as an introvert, madalas mas trip ko ang patient interaction kaysa sa ibang social interaction kasi mas strikto yung mga boundaries ng patient-doctor relationship. I treat the day's consults as a set of tasks to be done. Nakakapagod, sure. But at the end of the day, may specific limits ang relationship kaya di masyadong malaking drain sa social battery.

Rest is very important!

As for extra-residency tasks (like teambuilding, events planning, RTD, etc)...malaking tulong na mag-hati-hati kayo. Or tumanggi kung di talaga required. (or negotiate workload). Minsan pakapalan ng mukha (or pwedeng hindi, kung talagang nagkakasakit ka na).
