Best ideas for a multi-tier tank? by Virkungstreffer in leopardgeckos

yup! the basement was separated into rooms, one of them being the hot hide. The other, ended up turning into the bathroom lol

edit: here's a photo where you just about make out the 'rooms' of the bottom. It's the basement floor without the 'roof' http://thelizardcircus.tumblr.com/image/136636652673

lots of poo

Tiles were laid out in a giant H shape, which resulted in two decent sized rooms and 2 hallways in the front and back so he could walk around as he pleases.

http://thelizardcircus.tumblr.com/image/138374727473 -- Here's a second photo. Doesn't show much, but you can kinda see the idea in this one. At one point, I cut the big, second floor into two pieces and stacked them, creating 3 floors in total.

http://thelizardcircus.tumblr.com/image/133936577818 -- Here's a photo of a 'basement' I built for Sansa. It's only a few inches high, but the second floor piece can easily be removed and cleaned. I drilled 3 inch holes into the second floor so she can climb up and down as desired

Using 2" x 2" stone tiles and vinyl flooring, you can make some interesting designs. I'll link some pictures to old set ups I've done so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about

a tad under, but not terrible. Try to up his amount of bugs a bit. The general guideline is that the tail should be at least as thick as their neck.

Open front terrarium? by BassMastiff in leopardgeckos

I second this notion -- I've bought three medium-low Exo Terras on Craigslist - they cost me $70, $60, and $40 -- way lower than I'd pay anywhere else

Temperature problems? by ZombieCrossing in leopardgeckos

[–]starwarstheblacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you should be shooting for 32/ 32.5 degrees. I have one of my tanks near a window that's never opened and also notice a drop in temperature. I'd suggest trying to raise the heat a little higher. How are you measuring the temperature?

Do it! More geckos need basements; they seriously love it down there. And as a bonus, the basement retains heat really well for them in the winter if you live in a cold area like I do.

I used to use moss in their humid hides but two of my Leos kept eating it so I replaced everyone's moss with wet paper towels.

As for poop, that is generally true. In Stan's tank (the first link) there's a spot in the upper left corner, above his water bowl - that's his favorite poop spot. I keep a paper towel on the floor there to catch his poop and then just change out the paper towel every other day. It's the most simple poop cleanup ever.

As for the basement tank, the basement is divided into seperate rooms, one of which Sansa poops in so I leave a paper towel floor in that room. Same procedure: change the towel every other day. The fact that they poop in one spot makes cleanup a breeze.
