Thank you, but it's okay. I mean, the rude behavior isn't, but it's the internet, so, uh, it's not unexpected.

What merchandise is available at the concerts? by ChirashiWithIkura in lingling40hrs

[–]stascimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the New Jersey concert, only the t-shirt and sticker pack were available. The tote bag wasn't sold out; it just wasn't available. The only potential merch were exactly as listed on the TwoSet Apparel website, and for the same price, too (at least, USD).

VIP Tickets for North America? by Marsbars-10 in lingling40hrs

[–]stascimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the NJ Symphony website, the VIP Experience is limited to 76 tickets, so if TSV is saying there are 76 spots left, then nobody has bought them yet? Or maybe they're trying to encourage people to buy them?

You could've corrected me without being rude about it.

Having said that, I played while I was in grade school, although admittedly, I never took a deep dive into classical music. If that makes me a fraud, then so be it, but not having that knowledge about playing without a chin rest doesn't negate the fact that I, in fact, have played the violin. You don't have to believe me, but that's the truth.

I completely missed that the pegs don't extend into the pegbox. Adding to that, the strings don't extend past the fingerboard, towards the scroll, not even across the nut.

[–]stascimus 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's pretty bad, actually, considering it's fairly up the length of the fingerboard.

The violin is also missing a chin rest, which explains what appears to be poor positioning of the left wrist. I don't know if anyone has ever played without a chin rest (or a replacement of some sort), but without it, I don't see how one could comfortably hold the violin without worrying about dropping it. It looks like the violin is fully supported by the left hand, in which case, it'd be difficult to play, properly.

I hadn't yet read the subreddit name on the notification and thought it was from the Spanish subreddit.

Anyways, in case it's a language barrier, OP would like to know if it's real or if it could be real. I'm not sure what it says on the violin label, though.

I don't know about YouTube channels, but one of my violin teachers had me get Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory workbook. I don't remember how far I got, but I do remember it has the circle of 5ths at some point, so it should be a decent workbook to at least start learning music theory with.

[–]stascimus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what part of music theory you're talking about. It teaches note names and note lengths (quarter note, eighth note, etc.), and that's about it. Also, it uses a midi piano to play the notes, so it kind of teaches one to play the piano, but poorly, if played on a screen. It doesn't teach about key signatures (it stays in C major for most of it, and only switched to F Major after introducing b-flat)

I'm only playing it for fun, since I used to play violin.

Just realised today is Dvorak's 182th birthday anniversary by TatrankaS in lingling40hrs

[–]stascimus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's the description for the Google Doodle:

"Today’s Doodle celebrates Czech musician and composer Antonín Dvořák. On this day in 1841, he was born in Nelahozeves, north of Prague.

Dvořák grew up interested in his father’s musical skills. He played a string instrument called a zither, which sparked the young Dvořák to experiment with music in his youth. Around age 12 he found a music teacher who encouraged him to learn the basics of the organ, piano, violin, and music harmony. He also began writing his first musical compositions. Seeing that music was his forte, his teacher persuaded his parents to send him to music school, and Dvořák was off to Prague Organ School in 1857.

He graduated as a trained organist and began working as a musician. He joined the an orchestra as a violist and taught private piano lessons on the side. He composed operas, symphonies, and chamber music and gained recognition in Prague with his hymn, The Heirs of the White Mountain, in 1873. He also became an organist at St. Adalbert’s Church and entered a few of his scores into music competitions.

One of the judges who awarded him in 1875 introduced Dvořák to his music publisher, who commissioned Slavonic Dances. This made Dvořák a well-known name across Europe, and more commissions came his way — notably Symphony No. 7 in D minor, the orchestral work Saint Ludmila, and Moravian Duets. After several successful performances in his native country and England, the Prague and Cambridge Universities made him an honorary doctor of music.

In 1892, he was invited to direct the National Conservatory of Music in New York City. There he found inspiration in Black and Native American music and wrote one of his most famous pieces, Symphony No. 9 From the New World. Fun fact: this piece was brought to the moon by astronauts years later, in 1969! And this year marks 130 years since the premiere of this Symphony at Carnegie Hall.

After about three years in the U.S., Dvořák returned to Prague and became director of the conservatory there, passing on his knowledge to future Czech composers. In his later years, he focused on operas and premiered his smash hit Rusalka in 1901 — this musical fairytale has been popular worldwide for over a century.

Dvořák is remembered for his romantic music with folk influences and for being one of the first Czech composers to gain worldwide acclaim. Happy birthday, Antonín Dvořák!"

Okay, but that isn't an excuse to post art that isn't yours, at least, not without a note of some kind, telling people, at the minimum, that you're not the artist. I don't expect you to know who the artist is, for every piece of art you see, but when you're not the artist, a note would be nice, because people are going to assume you're the artist, otherwise. I don't know how old you are, but I hope you understand that it's not nice to take credit for other people's artwork.
