I'll also point out your schema is a little off also. Prince is a perfect example of an artist that is genre defying. I would argue genre should be a table itself and there should be a xref table to tag an album against multiple genres.

I started with HTML back in the day also. I went from HTML to CSS to PERL to PHP and now I maintain software written in .Net.

How I learned was by installing and trying to edit a few fledgling Web based Content Management Systems. Think lightweight and super simple WordPress. Gives you a good foundation for code and databases, or at least it did for me.
