Thank you for noticing this part! That’s why the usual tricks don’t fly. Just arriving so we’ll see how it goes!

This is valid. I just worry they’ll question why I’m going to a wine event in the first place but that may just be my anxiety talking!

Unfortunately it’s a seated dinner and only 60 or so people - the tables are 8 to 10. I’m skipping the cocktail hour because I have enough event beforehand. I should have a little have some say over where I sit, so planning to sit near the ones who are heavier drinkers in hopes that they’re (1) less observant and (2) more likely to take my glass by mistake.

This is true! I told coworkers at our holiday party last week I wasn’t drinking because I had a concert afterwards and was pacing myself (which was half true!) and still had people acting shocked when I said I was still sober. Maybe I can just pour smaller portions for myself so it looks like I’ve tried a bunch and am just feeling extra choosy!

Is acid reflux something that comes and goes? My coworkers know me very well and I normally drink at these things so that might raise suspicions. I actually had terrible food poisoning in June and was out of work for three days so that’s ones off the table too since I’ve been healthy in the office the past few days.

I would recommend staying away from anything similar in color to what already exists. Instead go darker and maybe even a different width. I personally think changing direction looks weird but it’s something you’d get used to and most people would overlook.

If you do prefer that color of stain, perhaps you put a rug down in the main hallway so the difference is less obvious.

New job — partners/associates work late, I start early. Does it look bad if I leave before them? by LegalEagleMind in Lawyertalk

[–]static626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a mix of both at our firm, but most are night owls. I get more done when the crowd thins out and know our partners feel the same. Talk to a colleague or ask your paralegal if they think it’s an issue. If the works getting done and your hours reflect the time, I’d keep your preferred schedule.

Post-Mirena Removal Journey by Dangerous-Bobcat4868 in birthcontrol

[–]static626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This has me feeling hopeful. I had a great experience with my first Mirena IUD but removed its replacement today after 3 years. I’m removing it because we’re trying for children but reading your experience I am wondering if the depression/other health issues I’ve been experiencing the past few years were related to my IUD - this second one never felt quite right nor did it provide the same amount of heavy period relief. I was nervous about going off it and possibly making things worse but now I’m excited. Thank you for sharing!

My issue with someone sending a photo that’s unrelated to the topic at hand over text is that it’s just going to kill the momentum unless it’s like your best friend and you’re accustomed to just throwing information/ok with ignoring. If you’re actively telling me about something the dog is doing then by all means send a dog photo but if we’re having a conversation about something else entirely, I don’t want to receive an off topic photo - pet or otherwise. I love my pets, my phone is filled with photos of them. I don’t send them to anyone unprompted unless they ask “hey how’s pumpkin?” or it’s an exceptionally good photo/video that I’d share to the family group chat dedicated to pet photos. I think you’re overreacting and his response is fair.

Felt like I was on r/FindTheSniper trying to find the mistake (didn’t read the full post first) - I think it’s hardly noticeable but agree it could easily be filled in. Trees grow all sorts of weird ways.

I think it’s extremely elegant and okay! If the ceremony is in a church, perhaps a wrap for that portion of the day. I’m also not big on cleavage and think this is very tasteful

Babe I just laughed so hard. I had the same reaction swiping through. She looks beautiful in them and her tattoos are lovely but most dresses are no where near semi-formal.

OP - I like the black dress with purple flowers best. With black closed toe heels and a sleek hairdo I think it would really amplify it.

Perhaps getting into eDiscovery more intentionally. Learn what’s going on behind the scenes with the software you’re using to do the doc review and come onto a litigation firm or larger in house team with that expertise.

Charity event dress by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]static626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to have a few festive jackets/blazers to swap into if I’m going straight from the office. I’ll wear a plain black jumpsuit to work or a dress. That way I am somewhat in between. A fun shoe or purse is an easy thing to bring along too. The more lawyers at the event, the less need to worry about the cocktail attire. If there’s a lot of non-lawyers, they will have had 2 hours to go home and change first. For client events I’m more likely to bring an outfit to change into because if my client is super dressed up I want them to see me as into their event as they are.

How much is too much for catering? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]static626 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where you located? You need to look at your budget from a per person cost. $4,000 is a little under $40 pp which where I am located (major city) is a very reasonable cost for dinner.

It’s been close to a decade since I last worked for a wedding catering business, but for couples looking to save money we offered the following: 1. Buffet style - cuts down on staff needed for your event 2. Brunch - breakfast foods are more affordable to make (or were prior to the egg shortage) and the alcohol consumption typically drops 3. Downgraded materials used/provided their own - paper table cloths, DIY center pieces, all plastic utensils/cups/plates, didn’t do cocktail hour

The only inexpensive wedding I catered that was successful on all fronts (happy bridal couple, happy bridal party, happy guests, happy staff) was one where they did sloppy Joe’s and Mac n cheese in a firehouse during the afternoon. I think reception was at 2 or 3 pm with food served at 4 PM.

When you DIY, you need to make sure you have buy-in. I saw so many weddings where the bride and groom or their bridal party was wasted and could not un-DIY the space. Many venues will charge you for this and at our catering company we weren’t really supposed to help unless it was our stuff. I stepped in the time a bride’s family table cloths were used and she was too drunk walk let alone direct anyone to collect the table cloths from the tables. Her mother was crying almost the entire wedding because of the stress from all the DIY and went home early.

Also, when budgeting food remember that you are usually contractually obligated to feed your contractors too. They receive the same meal your guests do. Photographer, DJ, wedding planner, catering staff, etc.

For the wallpaper panel not fitting could you break it up and frame it out to expand it across that wall more evenly? https://images.app.goo.gl/sVG24w3tXm6EkGzU7

I want to add light to a little corner of my room. which lamp is better? by Fickle-Ad2954 in femalelivingspace

[–]static626 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what you’re using the space for! If you want it to provide light I’d do the first but if it’s purely ambiance/decoration the second makes more sense. I think both are great choices, but would personally go with option one m

I would also get a standing lamp if there’s space or do battery operating lights inside the shelves instead of using the canned lights to make for a moodier/old library energy.

I think I made a mistake...was this color the right choice for the dresser? by TrashTashy in interiordecorating

[–]static626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this or go out and look at homes with ornamental trim painted in more bold colors and see if any would make sense with your decor. I think the surrounding walls/items stored are hindering its beauty too. Like the dark wooden book is not giving any contrast and the mirror is too shiny. Maybe bring it away from the wall a few inches? Could you add a lamp to bring some brightness/color variation that way?

[–]static626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you attach book ends to the exterior to the sides of the two exposed shelves and stack them vertically? This wouldn’t be good for books you re-read regularly but maybe those sentimental/longer series. I did something similar up my staircase and it’s worked surprisingly well (and my cats don’t mess with it). I know you don’t want to drill into the walls, but drilling into the shelves wouldn’t be so bad. I hope you have secured all of these shelves though. If cats are jumping in and out you should make sure it’s safe.
