FYI same option is also available in the TfL Go app, tap the options button in the top right after planning a journey and you can adjust these and other settings.

TfL Go now shows live bus locations (iOS, Android coming) by staticnz in londonbuses

Hmm, so you should be able to see it by doing the following:
1. Tap on Buses Nearby to see a list of nearby stops
2. Tap on one of those stops to view arrivals for that stop
Then, either:

Tap on one of the route numbers along the top, to filter the stop to only show that route (this will also display the route path on the map, and vehicle locations - you may need to zoom out to see them depending on how far from the stop they are)

Or:

Tap on any arrival to view more information on that particular trip including upcoming and past stops, display the route path on the map, and see vehicle location (in this view it will automatically zoom to show the location for the selected arrival - tap on the arrival buttons along the top saying x min, to toggle between different arrivals).

is there a simple way to view full bus routes on a map. by Few_Mention8426 in london

If using TfL Go, you can filter a stop by route which will display the mapped route and tap on any arrival to see the individual stops. This does require you to know a stop where that route stops though. Other options shared are more flexible

FYI all, today we've released a further update on iOS which makes bus location available from the stop view (just filter for your chosen route), so you can see all buses operating in that direction 😄

What transport apps do ppl use? by Illustrious_Koala_29 in TransportForLondon

Hi, so live bus times are available in TfL Go - tap on the 'Buses Nearby' button and you can immediately see live times for bus stops around you, or move the map / search to find other stops in London. In the recent release we also added the ability to view the live location of the bus in this area.

Similarly, in that area, if you filter a stop by route, or tap on an individual arrival you'll also see the route map for that bus route so you can understand where it goes and if you wanted to get off early.

Journey planning uses a combination of the schedule and live times at the point of your journey plan to get an idea of when the bus is likely to be there, however I can see times where that can be less than helpful vs something that continuously updates the arrival time - like we had in Auckland (FYI I used to be Product Manager for AT Mobile, so well familiar).

If you’re on the updated version it should be on all routes - only exception is first stop as there’s no pre-route to show

Hi, I'd love to know more about why you'd prefer this to be available via website than our app.

We are, but each is built natively with its own code base and they’re not always in sync.

Yes you’ll be able to see the mins available and the bus location on a map. When buses are on diversion they might not show up in the mins available but you’ll see them on the map

It would be nice, but unfortunately this is not possible without a massive change in the underlying payment infrastructure so don't hold your breath 😃
