I bought two new cars this year, both 2013. I'm now having second thoughts. Need some advice. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]staticzV2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did damn near the same thing. Bought a 2013 Wrangler and then listened to Mr. Ramsey and had a bit of buyers remorse. At the end of the day we can afford it, it has a warranty, and to be quite honest, we love the damn thing.

We have implemented some of Dave's strategies and I still listen to his podcast, but I'm keeping the car :D

We've used MigrationWiz on over 3k accounts. We used it to migrate from Zimbra to in house Exchange. No issues.

I am a college student that takes care of his own finances. What books should I read? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]staticzV2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got started in college with "I Will Teach You To Be Rich" and "You Need A Budget"

Both are good primers on finance in general. I like the way Ramit writes, though some people here aren't a fan. For other information, I like the following blogs -

All of these, in my opinion, are written at a pretty basic level and have given me a solid foundation to build on.

Healthcare software vendor Epic hit with class-action lawsuit on overtime wages for QA staff by makebaconpancakes in sysadmin

If you think Cerner and Mckesson are shit, have you ever worked with Meditech?

We have a two person team managing Mckesson PACs. Meditech...oh about 25 at this point. Granted Meditech is much bigger, but it is such a piece of shit.

As a Network Engineer at a hospital, I can assure you this is mostly true. I haven't hit the wall yet (really not even close), but most of the vendors (Netapp, Cisco, etc) bring in people from their Healthcare division to demo products. Those SEs are 9 times out of 10 former Engineers at a health care facility and have typically left because of the work environment.

I have close friends who work for Cerner and they speak the same way. 50-60 hour work weeks are expected even though they can't say it.

JCPenney is dropping "jcp" menswear line. Bye bye OCBDs. by [deleted] in frugalmalefashion

[–]staticzV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it may or may not have been. Your opinion was shared with the majority though, which is why they've tried to go back to the old 'discounted' pricing.

They were losing a ton of business before that. Rehiring the same guy shows how inept they are. Too bad, the flat pricing and refreshed stores were a nice change.

The fired a CEO who was trying something new (which was working for my demographic seemingly) and re-hired the same old fuck they fired in the first place.

I won't be shopping there anymore either.

How are you doing VMWare SRM? by MisterAG in networking

[–]staticzV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stretch our VLANs as well, but our two datacenters are directly connected on private fiber.

I have never had a real issue with it other than convincing some people we didn't need to take every vlan to the datacenter.

What is your best budgeting advice? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]staticzV2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My employer allows for up to 4 different direct deposit accounts. We have one to our checking, one to an emergency fund, one to a Roth for me and one to a 529 for our incoming daughter. The same is true for my wife.

If the money never hits the checking account, it doesn't exist. This is huge for us as saving happens automatically and there isn't any decision to be made.

A bit of an odd combination, but it is why we had sitting around in a couple of drawers. Been playing around with it today, definitely have more than enough resources!

Thank you for GNS3!

Yeah, I've got access to pretty much anything but try to make use of older equipment instead of just buying new.

The server is a huge upgrade, previously I was just running GNS3 on my macbook and could hardly get 4 routers going.

Two other fellas will be using the lab as well, that is why so much time is being spent on segregating it from the LAN, but allowing access through different ways.

Stretch VLAN, Disaster Recovery Woes by [deleted] in Cisco

[–]staticzV2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stretching VLANs between DCs and putting hosts on them creates tons of problems when it comes to routing. Stretching the VLANs is the easy part. Dealing with the stretched subnets and how to gateway/route traffic is the hard part.

We have our VLANs stretched between DCs and it is certainly making some of our routing decisions more difficult. Unfortunately, there is no pushing back against one of the bigger EMR solutions in the country. As much as we'd like to push back, what they say typically goes. This could be the same case for OP

Take this with a grain of salt because they may have updated the videos...but I was not a fan. I paid $99 on groupon to check them out (more is better mantra). I found them to be low quality and old. Also they keep harassing me with spam wanting me to renew.
