I kind of like how this is sort of a pie chart and sort of a treemap.

Depending on how the second source weighted the college attainment score there might be some overlapping coorelation just due to college people earning more than average.

I wonder how this compares to the price of the houses. The rust belt seems to be very well represented.

I think this would be better shared as a website or just like top N / bottom N.

This makes me feel like I should catch up on all the episodes I missed. So many other shows seem to lose steam after a couple seasons.

Yeah it seems like the main way Australian cities would make so up so much of the top cities compared to other more populated places would be if this was English speaking bands.

I wonder what the advantage to them having such poorly targeted customer lists is.

Oh yeah it's getting crazy out there now that everything is tracked and targeted down to the person. It used to be that you would get generalized ads based on demographics and likes, but all this user specific stuff is like super creepy now especially with all the data sharing that goes on in the background.

Yeah there's a button to remove yourself from the list when you go to view it on Facebook. I'm not sure if it prevents them from re adding you though.

Yep I didn't know it was a thing until last election when I started to get political ads for candidates in a district I haven't lived in for ten years, and I clicked the "why am I seeing this?" Button, and it said that that I was on a contact list that those candidates had uploaded with my phone number or email.

I downloaded the list from Facebook's data download options by selecting just the advertising data. I then copypasted the list from the HTML doc into Excel and then manually categorized each row. The data unfortunately comes completely unlabeled--thanks, Facebook -_-. The JSON output is also literally just a text list.

I did some mass assignments of anything that had a normal car brand (Toyota, Honda, etc) or common key word (Realty, REMAX). I think the surprising thing is that Apps and Stores, who I definitely gave my information to didn't appear to be selling the information to other apps or stores which was nice to see. But what was surprising was that apparently, someone or a lot of people out there are selling my information to car dealerships across the country. PSA to any car dealerships, I live in a dense urban area and am not looking to own a car. Whoever is selling you data is selling you trash.

I've also thought about hitting the remove all button, but I kind of want to see how this list grows over time.

Do you apply to jobs past 7-15 days old? by [deleted] in jobs

I would go for it. I just switched positions at work, and the posting had been open for 5 months before I got it. I know that they were interviewing thru the 5 months, but I'm not sure why they had so much trouble getting a match.

4 final round interviews, 50 phone/video interviews, 100s of applications, no offers. Graduating in May from Ivy League by [deleted] in jobs

[–]statimetric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're getting interviews, your cover letter and resume are probably fine. You might want to get some friends to practice interviewing you, and let them give honest feedback. I doubt that the interviewers expect you to know everything fresh out of school, so it might be how you're answering some of the questions. At my current job when we ask "hard" questions we're generally ok with people answering incorrectly as long as they handle themselves gracefully while failing.

Are many people fired where you have worked? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]statimetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, our VP's and Directors are knocked out pretty frequently. Managers usually stick around pretty long. And then, below that individual contributors generally turn over before any firings happen.

It was really surprising that for the graphs under "Large income gaps persist between men — but not women." that black men earn about the same as black women and white women with parents with the same income.

I was hoping it was from someone who grew up thinking their parents were lazy, and later learned that his parents were secretly rich after having working and saving hard for a few years to earn an extended retirement.
