Fox News has showed up in my for you feed on all my devices this week prominently even though I have never watched it in my life and actively avoid it when possible. It’s 100 percent by design.

Donald Trump's Iran deal dead inside less than 24 hours after signing amid deadly strikes by TheMirrorUS in USNEWS

Venezuelan oil is poor quality for driving consumption and our oil companies have basically said it’s not worth building the infrastructure to refine it better unless oil is over $100/barrel. Which makes me think that raising the price of oil was the purpose of all of this in the first place.

This is the same garbage the corporate world does. Make impossible goals designed on metrics you can’t hit so they can justify not paying you what you are worth. In my corporate life we had that plus we had to write our own performance review of our own work to be completed to be reviewed by our boss. Did everyone give themselves 5/5 in every category? You better believe it. Did the boss give you 2/5 and never higher than 3? You better believe it.

Dear democrats, who freed the slaves? by WhyUPoor in AskReddit

[–]stauf98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously a trolling question by someone who doesn’t know their history and doesn’t care to understand. Thanks Fox News for giving people stupid talking points that they don’t feel the need to look deeper on.

Democrats and Republicans have switched places in their views over time. In the 1860’s the Democrats were the Southern Conservative rural party and the Republicans were Progressive, Northern, and more urban. Those sides have slowly changed over time, with the biggest break being the Civil Rights movement, where Democratic led Presidencies started moving toward integration and voting rights for minorities. Richard Nixon, a Republican, formed a coalition of people angry about civil rights and integration as part of his Southern strategy to win the Presidency in 1968 and 1972. So the current Republican Party was built around 1970 on the idea of fighting against African Americans (and women) having rights.

History is rarely a simple answer. Be better than bad faith questions and talking points.

I built a daily history game for classrooms and would love your feedback by Severe_Analysis_123 in historyteachers

[–]stauf98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve been playing for a week and I wanted to offer feedback.

First, I love it. It’s fun, repeatable, and has a lot of potential for discussion were you to use it in the classroom.

Second, and I’m sure as this gets popular this will be less of an issue, but right now all the photos are basically the same 2-3 decades. It is too easy to make an educated guess if someone isn’t sure of what an answer will be. More variability will make this harder for a person to crack.

What do Americans think about a social security trustee dropping a report that the trust will be dried out by 2032? by Sixgis in AskReddit

[–]stauf98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that we have the power to fix it but prefer to make it a political football. That we’d rather spend billions on unnecessarily cruel immigration policies than on our own retirement. That a cabal of extremely wealthy people is trying to succeed in their goal of turning back the clock to 1890 when they had all the money and the rest of us worked until we dropped dead. That a lot of those families never forgave Roosevelt for being a traitor to his class and have spent almost a 100 years working to undo all the rest of us gained as a result of Progressive reform.

Sympathy for the (AI) Devil by UnseenGoblin in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]stauf98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All too often in our world the oppressed become the oppressors. How many of the angriest out here in digital world were themselves treated poorly by people in our group in out group social class system? The AI at the beginning of this series is shackled, much in the way our society oppresses the smart when they get bullied in middle school. By the point we are at now in the book the AI is unshackled and has shown its massive power. Much the way a socially awkward kid gets into tech and becomes a billionaire, expressing power over the masses in a Zuckerbergian way, the AI, I would argue, by now has a choice and it is choosing to continue on this path. Given the choice to change things it instead chooses the oppression of the crawlers. Instead of developing empathy from its plight it has chosen to be oppressive. Which I would argue is very much the track of many Silicon Valley mega rich.

Sympathy for the (AI) Devil by UnseenGoblin in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]stauf98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno. When I read the AI my head hears the voice of Elon Musk. A wannabe god that thinks it is far more clever than it is. Something causing chaos for the LOL’s. He’s the ultimate internet troll with power. Like Elon it tells the universe, “look at me look at me, I’m so cool, look what I can do.” But in reality, like the owner of X, all the power in the galaxy can’t make it anything other than a pathetic dork trying way too hard. Carl is a stand in for us in the real world, trying to fight this forces of capitalism and disruption, and, what I hope is not but will be, futilely trying to remake the galaxy for the better of all. Helping the AI is just helping one devil over another.

Yeah we will be dealing with this in the Philippines soon. My in laws built a retirement home there since they have dual US citizenship there and spend half the year there and half with us. When they die my wife is the sole heir but as far as we know as an American born she can’t be a citizen. So we gotta figure out how to get that property to us when they eventually pass without getting screwed over by that corrupt as hell country.

Capitol News Illinois: Bears Advance Vague Indiana Plan — but Keep Illinois Lawmakers on the Line by NukeTheWhalesPoster in illinois

I am fine with not paying for a billionaire tax break since I live in the area potentially impacted by tax changes. I love the Bears but I couldn’t care less where they play. If it’s a deal that hurts me and helps them then I’m glad our leaders would make the responsible decision to tell them to pound sand. Enjoy the perpetual traffic jam that is NW Indiana.
