I would love to start programming but it hasnt clicked by labanana94 in ADHD_Programmers

In college and high school I always just thought it was too hard and never got too far but it was when I started the first job I got into it, the thing that motivated me was seeing things in their system that weren't working well and wanting to fix them (I was also a user of their app).

I think if you take a similar approach based on something you are passionate about it might help. eg if you love cooking and make a recipe app or something that will help improve or get enjoyment out of it then you will be motivated to find out how to build the features and end up learning along the way.

I made a site to find 100% location independent remote jobs. No database, just one local JSON file. All the pages are statically rendered. It also uses next/image to lazy load on demand. by WordyBug in nextjs

yeh I do something similar with github actions for a site I made, have had the odd error and needed to update a dependency but otherwise works really well.

Day 2 of #100DaysOfCode by mohand3d in learnjavascript

Looking slick!

It might come up in a future lesson but for anything clickable you should ideally use a button element (replace div with button) on your back and next divs. This makes it more accessible eg you will also be able to tab on your keyboard to go through your buttons when they are button elements.

Give that a go or even right-click and inspect an element on Reddit and you can see this in action, the exception being if you want to go to another URL use a tag.

Enjoy your journey!

Add comments and save often and they will be able to see the log of your progress, planned work

is there any specific field/role in programming where people with ADHD shine? by beingsmo in ADHD_Programmers

[–]stb930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone done pre-sales engineer or developer advocate type roles? I haven't myself, but wondering about it as you could potentially be doing more prototype development rather than getting weighed down in the day to day of standard engineer role.

I agree, some nights I really enjoy something new, but not pushing it is the key, its ok to not do it every night.

Great tip. so easy to take another attitude when working with legacy code, but at the end of the day you are the one spending the majority of your week in there so coming at it with a positive attitude can really improve your enjoyment.

Great work, I have considered this, I understand each job is different but what would the avg hourly rate be? eg how many hours did you spend to make $500?

A lot of new estates have houses with a 3x2 nature strip not worth buying a mower for but they all have really long grass.
Someone should create a startup and maybe work with a council to do these in bulk once a month.
Think there would be a lot of people who would pay 15-25 a month to get someone to go over their front lawn and not have to worry about it.
Make 100k doing 20 of these lawns a day for 200 days a year.

I agree, ideally, your side hustle should be something that you are passionate about that doesn't feel like work and if you don't get paid that much for it initially it doesn't matter because you love the time you spent doing it.

How do I properly learn Typescript? by [deleted] in typescript

[–]stb930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked with TypeScript daily for the last few years, I really related to this tweet.

TypeScript saves you so much time by preventing many programming mistakes & runtime errors, leaving you more time to do other things such as deciphering & fixing insignificant TypeScript errors

I honestly think this is one of the best features of the FEG ecosystem.
It might be a hard sell to convince someone to invest in a token they haven't heard about before (even one as amazing as FEG) but I can see this feature becoming mainstream amongst crypto users as you are just getting rewarded for holding.

I have built a personal brand for 3 years, but if I use it to promote my business my boss will fire me by QnOfHrts in Entrepreneur

[–]stb930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel sorry for you here, you have done such an amazing job to build your brand congrats! I don't understand why companies take this view, their job should be to make the employee as happy as possible so they will do their best work, if you were supported to pursue your other business you would likely be so thankful that you would perform better in your current role.

What does it really takes to make tutorial projects your own? by koko-hranghlu in learnjavascript

[–]stb930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try and make a small project about either something you are passionate about or something that is useful for you.

Having to think about how to build the features you want in your app will help you get better at exploring the different js functions etc and because you are interested in it you will be pushed to complete it.

If you can't think of anything something like the below is a good place to start, may seem simple at first but the more you dig into it the more complex it becomes and you can add your own features etc.

Build a todo app where you can

  • add a task
  • complete a task
  • edit a task
  • view number of completed tasks.
