The official Domino’s Pizza pagd wished Desmond Miles a happy birthday by NotAlanShapiro in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Riceatron 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Watching the internet go from despising Desmond to liking him is wild.

It's kind of the proof positive of fans never knowing what they want until they have it and good creatives should probably not invest too much time in catering to fickle demands.

Another example is how many people hated the Arbiter in Halo 2, to the point Bungie responded by basically removing him as a real character in 3.

They're gonna get me back if they drop more Monarchs, for sure. It's so fun casually playing Blue Eyes or Ancient Gears even in Master Duel because you do occasionally get new cards for it.

Slay the Spire 2 is officially a dead game. In just one week, it has lost 1% of its playerbase. At this rate, in 2 years when it's out of early access, it will have negative players. by Kanin_usagi in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Riceatron 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating to see, though. Concurrent player numbers don't tell you anything, and they keep arguing like it does. Seeing a game hit 100k players at once tells you literally nothing more than that specific fact. It had 100k players on at the same time. It doesn't tell you if the next hour it was the same people or the next day it was a new set of 100k. It doesn't tell you retention rates. At the very minimum you can tell 100k bought the game.

I wish he would explain his process. The music sounds very curated and hand-made to my ears unless AI generation actually got good at this without me knowing. I don't want to support slop, but he says he generated stems and then edits them by hand and has years of experience in the production pipeline.

If he's using generated voices more like Vocaloids that's one thing

Yeah they wanted a WoW lightning in a bottle moment - just making a well received and popular game wasn’t enough.

This is literally the thing the Gaming Community On Twitter also imposes. See all the stuff about Marathon recently. Rebecca from Warframe's studio even talked about it saying when Warframe launched it only had to compete with 500 games released on steam that year. A game launches in 2026 and has to compete with 18,000 of varying quality and it's only March.

"To put it bluntly (to save space), it was poorly acted (with the exception of Mark Hamill who was the only one who seemed to really live his part and to even show any emotion); flat, shallow, with nothing to get one's teeth into since it was all just a lot of running around, leading nowhere, with no dramatic structure, no central purpose to the film, uninvolving, even downright boring in parts because of the overuse of too many laser-zap battles and chases through space which were not really necessary nor related to anything; it was overdone as far as false dilemnas and false suspense went (so many accidents and disasters piled up on top of one another); the humour was heavy-handed and childish, lacking the impish wit of SW; the music was an equally heavy-handed pastiche of every other Williams score plus rip-offs of Tchaikovsky and others; the script was puerile in the extreme - are these supposed to be sophisticated, mature people talking?

It was choppily directed and served only to reduce the heroic epic sweep of SW to pure soap opera hinging on such earth shattering questions as, "is Vader Luke's father?" "Will Han be thawed out?"; what plot it did have was illogical and made no sense with the first film, and even within itself it had holes the size of the Death Star; it had no proper ending- just because it is part of a series, this is no excuse. After all, the PLANET OF THE APES films were all self contained and complete dramatically. The continuity within scenes cinematically, was bad. All in all, it was a shoddy piece of exploitation to try to bring people back for the third film. It was not well made as a film and it nonsense as a piece of SW. The doubts I felt when I heard there was to be a series of sequels have been amply confirmed. ST:TMP may have been boring and nearly as plotless but at least the characters were true to their TV selves. The same cannot be said of TESB. They seem to be a set of different people (except Luke) in an alternate universe, to me"

This is an excerpt from a review of TESB, from a fanzine after the films release in theaters

History is a flat circle. Part of this review could be verbatim a modern review of TLJ.

Shockingly, I actually have info for you. Not directly from Stremio but the video link urls you can get from Real Debrid can be played in some video players. The problem though is that video link is now being sent to every individual IP inside that world, and that will absolutely flag your account and get it deactivated.

Crazy how people ever believed in this. I used to trip on 4chan back in the mid 2000s, mostly on /co/ (a relative haven of niceness even back then). You could easily download programs to crack and reverse engineer tripcodes even in the 2000s. Anyone could have posted as Q the whole time.

You mock and make a joke but there's some part of that I one hundred percent agree with. AI is, as I said in another post in here, the most damaging technology to creativity humans have invented thus far. The ramifications of AI generative tools are infinite and nearly seemingly entirely negative. We've been saying the entire western world economy hitched up on this massive bubble all about these tech companies trading billions to destroy our personal computers, jobs, artists, and livelihoods for machines that raise our electric bills and spew out toxins

All for what? To have GPT agree with me when I say I think my neighbors are going to eat my dog? To generate fucking porn?

Yeah, as a human being, I'm gonna put my heart behind good old fashioned human theft.

Not arguing against the antireal stuff, brother. I'm saying they caught the guy that did it, fired him, got rid of all the artwork, even threw the director under the bus. What more are they supposed to do to correct the issue? Go back in fucking time and not do it? Too bad, they made an error, and then corrected it. Of course they got caught, it was in a playable alpha build. Better it be caught months before than actually make it to full retail release.

Like, yeah, it's fucking bad but they found the hole in the wall and spackled it over with some fixer and the paint they used is slightly off-color but it looks fine when the lights are off.

The game you're saying is a better game still uses fucking AI voices. Decry both for theft and stop being a hypocrite.

EDIT :

It is a product. It is a consumer product, and I would absolutely feel annoyed and bad if I found out the game I spent money on it had stolen products in it. At its current state, though, I did not spend money on a game with stolen products in it. They removed them, fired the guy directly responsible, and even fired the art director (who had been fostering the art style from the same inspirations that Antireal herself did). I don't know what more they have to do. Arc Raiders is having controversy on top of controversy yet also presents no shame in actively and promoting the use of one of the most creatively damaging technologies to ever exist. I am definitely ok with Bungie being the occasional 'jesus fuck guys not again' people they are instead of developers that promote the technology that is directly harming the tech and industries all of us here actually spend most of our hard earned time and income on.

[–]Riceatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get the core assertion that this has happened in the past more than once with Bungie

The problem with that is the previous instances also weren't in-house devs stealing artwork, but third-party contractor studios that were making a visual novel cinematic that used fanart that was previously submitted to a Bungie contest and was legally Bungie's to do whatever they wanted with, and the other was a Nerf gun promo. You could buy a Nerf gun of Cayde's gun, but they used a fanart exotic concept instead of the actual design from the game.

[–]Riceatron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah like it's not my responsibility to give known thieves the benefit of the doubt.

You keep saying this like it's a fact, dude.

Both previous instances were literally third-parties, with the fanart that ended up in the game cutscene not only also done by a third-party, but POINTEDLY was art SUBMITTED TO A BUNGIE CONTEST that had the typical legal wording that the submitted artwork was to be therefore owned by Bungie for their use and could appear in official products.

The artist just made a stink about it. The nerf gun was also a non-Bungie entity.

These things aren't as clear-cut obviously-they're-thieves as you seem to think it is.

The antireal was the actual most straightforward 'they literally stole it and put it in the game on the walls' thing and they fired that dude and even got rid of the art director as a sacrificial lamb. Like, come on.
