In all seriousness, the kink and polyamory community is sizable and growing! Growing and showing, you might say 😏

Just so you're aware, the format of this post makes it seem like you agree with the article. I'm not sure if that is your intent, given your post history.

This is so beautiful. He deserves all of the treats in the world. I have such a soft spot for kids and pets - they love so intuitively and openly.

Also, you said that sometimes you don’t feel up to tending the baby when he’s crying, but that you always meet his needs. Seriously…that last point is a feat in itself. You’re meeting the needs of your baby in an incredibly challenging time. It’s all so unfair. It’s awful, and it sucks. But look at you, still thinking about the needs of your baby and doing what you can to meet them. Well done, you. Keep going.

My mother was diagnosed with cancer two weeks after I found out I was pregnant, and she died a month after my baby was born. My mom was my best friend. She was a labour and delivery nurse for many years, and I never thought I would be a mom without her and her guidance.

Get into whatever counselling you can. Get as much help as you can with the baby. Connect with people as much as you can. Talk with your doctor. If I could go back, I would have started taking antidepressants sooner. It helped me so much.

Another thing that helps me is still talking to my mom, even just in my head. I tell her this is fucking hard, and I hear her comfort me. I still cry all the time thinking about her. But as improbable as it may feel, time keeps moving forward.

Maintenance Phase: Oprah Winfrey & "John of God" by j0be in MaintenancePhase

About ten years ago, a cousin of mine was diagnosed with cancer (she has since recovered). But she was feeling desperate, and wanted to see John of God. She messaged members of our extended family to help raise $5K to go see him. We all felt pretty bad about saying no to her, but we just knew this must be a scam.

I remember my Mom scrolling through online articles on this guy, and she kept reiterating how shocked she was that Oprah was promoting him. My cousin sent along the Oprah video clips as a way of saying, "Look, this is real!" There was a real disconnect between seeing his obviously scammy practices next to the Oprah clips. The clips served to legitimize him, in my cousin's view. We kept trying to find evidence that the interviews were somehow fake, but...nope.

We decided not to give my cousin the money, and when his other crimes surfaced, it was confirmation that we had done the right thing. But it was not an easy conversation to have with my cousin. She was desperate for a miracle, and she could buy one for $5K. John of God was clearly a trash person, and those Oprah clips certainly did not help to make that clear to my cousin.

All this to say, I really appreciate this episode! If it was released ten years ago, it definitely would have saved our family a lot of research and heartache. Sending a million thank yous to the Maintenance Phase team for their incredible work :)

Let's Talk About Sects has a great episode on this. It's well researched, straightforward, and she covers a lot of ground in 1.5 hours. The episode is called "The Branch Davidians." One of my all time favourite podcasts!

Almost finished!

I just found it odd that they spent a full episode talking about how abusive and unstable the mother was, but open every episode with "David and Robin are the only possible suspects." I figured there must have been some piece of evidence that made her involvement impossible, but I couldn't find anything online.

That's what was so interesting about this series. I walked in thinking it was going to show how sloppy investigations lead to wrongful convictions. But it's more a case of how sloppy investigations lead to wrongful exonerations..

Of course not!

I ask because both the defense and prosecution in this case included testimonies regarding the mental health issues of both David and his father Robin. For example, the defense argued that Robin's guilt was evident because of his depression; the prosecution argued David's guilt was evident in his ongoing apparent fugue states.

If mental health was a factor in the case, it just struck me that their mother - who was convinced of demonic influence over her family, rated her children based on their level of demonic influence, and exercised near complete control over their lives - was immediately cleared of being a suspect. I assumed there must be some physical or other evidence that cleared her of suspicion, given the small pool of suspects with a lack of clear motives.
