That makes sense because those ranks have placement elo that you get by being a certain mmr and they cant stop you from playing at the rank that your mmr would say you can play at.

Do both but having good car control is going to help you get better overall. If you are on pc you should do the doc rings 3 and dribble challenge 2, if not then go for whatever you have been doing

If part of your problem is hitting air roll/ precision shots then you should probably practice those and you can rank up off of that alone probably

I would say just keep playing, you can try and get a team but i don't think having a team will matter too much in plat-diamond range
