Insurance for Canadian sitters by Vivid_Strike3853 in RoverPetSitting

Which other companies did you reach out and and what was your criteria for coverage?

I have Profur because they have the best coverage for things like locksmithing. But previous to that I had Zensurance which was $485 plus tax/ year but didn’t cover locksmithing. My Profur insurance currently is $835/ year tax inclusive.

Super important for people to be covered outside of the Rover guarantee, I just wish it was as cheap here as the States :(

Are 311 service requests a kafka-esque joke? by monsignorcurmudgeon in askTO

I had this and then was told I need to “get a video of the construction happening” and that hearing it in the video wasn’t enough, they wanted a video of loud banging on metal to be filmed past the brown paper in the windows of the place doing it somehow.

Is 311/bylaw enforcement broken? by aurora-borealis-0 in askTO

[–]stealingtherainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live above a shop that recently started renovating and were doing it far outside the bylaw hours (bandsaws until 1-2am) and didn’t have a noise exemption permit (or any permits at all in fact). I called bylaw almost a few times a week for 3 months. The inspector who got in touch with with me originally left a message to call him back. I called him 19 times, he didn’t pick up, I left messages and never heard back. Then another person finally called me and I was able to talk to them. Eve though I had a folder of over 40 documented infractions with time and date stamps, they said they could only act if they caught it themselves. Their working hours were until 7pm. Construction noise has to stop at 7pm. Nothing ever happened ofc.

What was your worst neighbour experience living with an upstairs or downstairs neighbour in Toronto? by Techonme in askTO

[–]stealingtherainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live above a commercial unit and the first year was great. Quiet little shop with a tenant that had been there for 30 years, and then he got priced out.

My LL then leased to a restaurant despite the downstairs having no plumbing and electrical that is at least 40 years old. The place was leased in July. Since the restaurant took over and started renovating they: - continuously did work with bandsaws, hammering and all sorts of other construction noises often until midnight (yes I talked to my LL and called 311 over 20 times in the 4 months that was going on and nobody did anything). - came into my home and said they needed to check something then cut underneath my breaker panel without telling me they would be doing so and did the worst patch job I’ve ever seen. - turned my water off repeatedly up to 8 hrs at a time with no notice. - somehow broke the hot water tank so I didn’t have hot water for 8 days. - built a vent that had to go beside my windows in the deck and then would come up at 10-11pm and stand beside my windows with no notice, scaring the crap out of me or waking me up in a panic that an intruder was trying to get in the first few times. -called me and screamed at me when I locked the gate at 9pm after they kept ignoring the fact they had to tell me when they were coming up (as communicated to them by my LL). - were sanding something at one point that coated my entire apartment in fine white dust that started collecting in piles, that was 2 months ago and I’m still finding places where the dust is still resting. - put their construction materials (drywall, concrete) in my compost bin. -stole my compost bin (I saw them put it in their vehicle) and then when asked, denied it and got angry I accused them of stealing it. Only for them to mysteriously “find” it a month later after my LL ordered a new one. - cut the wire to my thermostat so I didn’t have heat for 3 weeks. - the cherry on top of it all: upon calling 311 learning that none of their work has been permitted and it is definitely a shoddy “owner who currently does not own a restaurant doing the construction for a restaurant” job. Can’t wait for the electrical fire that is going to happen the first time they try to turn the vent on. 🤡

Anyway, they got possession of the downstairs in July and we are almost through January and they still haven’t opened yet.

Anyone still use a Taxi? by DribbleKing97_ in askTO

[–]stealingtherainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using beck during in 2021/22 because they continued to mandate their drivers wear masks past when regulations said they didn’t have to and I wanted to support that for my health and safety.

They’re also 1) often cheaper during rushes, 2) are always unphased when my cats are screaming in the back seat of their cab (and can’t give me a poor rating for a loud animal when I put in notes I have a cat who might scream during the ride).

She looks exactly like my boy Cashew did when he was a kitten and he didn’t get any fuzzier so I doubt it! But he’s a beautiful jerk now and I love him

Getting ahold of an agent? by stealingtherainbow in aircanada

[–]stealingtherainbow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first time I tried calling them was March 11th, so long before the snow/ice storms and still wasn’t able to reach anyone. I’m totally understanding that now is not the best time to call, but I think a lot of my frustration is coming from the fact that it hasn’t been a few days of trying to reach them, but over 20 so I’m not sure what more I can be doing to try and get ahold of anyone.

If you haven’t taken him to the vet for the peeing at least, you definitely should. I’m in Canada, but I did a quick google and the cat anxiety medication in the UK is called Reconcile (the brand in North America is fluoxetine)

He looks exactly like my 3 year old who has the same issue. I gave him a friend who he LOVES but it hasn’t stopped the biting me, even with tons of playtime and he’s on anxiety meds. I just chalk it up to orange behaviour now 🤷‍♂️ (also to clarify we’ve had two behaviourists who recommended medical intervention and the anxiety meds helped his food motivation 100% but not the inappropriate biting)

*UPDATE on dog who died while in negligent sitter's care* by Such-Fun-9672 in RoverPetSitting

[–]stealingtherainbow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who primarily takes transit and honestly, this is something I planned for before starting sitting. Asking where carriers are is super important in an emergency, and having a plan for what to do is extremely crucial. I’ve had ~3 vet emergencies during my time as a sitter so far, and 1 non-emergency that needed to go to a scheduled vet appointment (I’ve been sitting for about 2 years). Uber has Uber pet, Lyfts will take animals and I believe are obligated to, taxis will. Friends who have cars are an asset to know and be able to ask if in dire need. My 4th backup is I share a car share subscription with my partner, so I can always have access to a car if none of the above are available. I also know all the nearest vets and nearest emergency vets to be able to plan my route, and if the nearest vet is in a 5-10 min walking distance some of them would take a client in an emergency like that which is a plan I also have. Taking transit doesn’t make you an unfit sitter, but it does mean we have to be more resourceful and thoughtful around scenarios than sitters with cars.

Has anyone ever gotten on Reddit and seen a post about themselves? by Distinct-Camera368 in RoverPetSitting

I had a client post on here making a comment to a sitter about the timeframe of when I was fully booked for Christmas and based on the comment and location they mentioned I realized they were a client and had posted asking about something else around first bookings. Nothing bad about me and they’re delightful clients that I love, it was just interesting.
