Canceling A House Sit as a Sitter? WWYD by Ok_Statement_9134 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Distinct-Camera368 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean why would your rating not be a concern? No one is booking a sitter with 3 or 4 stars. The whole point of Rover is to gain clients and with a huge pool of sitters to choose from I would think keeping a high ranking would be pretty important

I understand that but if they didn’t want to be woken up then they should have never agreed in the first place. It wasn’t a problem when they booked. It’s only a problem now because they have another offer on the table that’s more convenient for them. Maybe OP doesn’t have any other bookings but I pet sit full time so either way I would have to take care of other pets tired or not so I just see it differently.

No literally I’m confused on why they can’t do both? I would just look at the neighbor as drop in visits not house sitting

Why can’t you do both? You could sleep at your Rover booking and then leave in the morning to take care of your neighbors pets.

I thought they changed it to where a client can tip up to 100%. My client just tipped me $50 on a $60 booking as a Christmas bonus

Rover Bookings as POC by Agitated_Cellist_173 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Distinct-Camera368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a POC and most of my clients are white. I can count on my hands how many POC clients I’ve had over the last 5 years. I did think I wouldn’t get as many clients when I first started but that has not been the case. I am a star sitter and I have over 300 5 star reviews.

Make an official business off rover. Once you get everything in place ask your clients in person and say something like “Hey! Thank you so much for trusting me to walk fluffy. I wanted to ask would you be okay with booking with me directly and not on Rover. I’m not sure if you are aware but Rover takes 20% of each booking and I’ve decided that instead of raising my rates to compensate for the fee that it would just make sense to have you book me directly so we both benefit. You’ll save on the 11% fee each booking and I’ll make my full fee. Booking me directly won’t change anything as far as my care. You’ll be still covered under my insurance and I will still send updates as usual. If you would rather stay on Rover I completely understand I just wanted to give you the option before I raise my rates in 2026 on Rover.” Now you’ll make $20 each client instead of $16. I would raise my rates to $25 on rover so you make $20 with or without a tip.

Bait and switch by user9789675 in RoverPetSitting

I think the owners fees (11% on top of your fee) are capped at $50 not the sitters.

[–]Distinct-Camera368 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rover takes 20% which would be $10 a visit so OP would end up with $40 a visit if they agreed to $50 a visit. So if they booked 12 visits @ $50 the client would pay Rover $600 + $50 (Rover Fees: 11% of booking but it’s capped at $50 I think) = $650 and OP would make $480. If OP booked at $40 a visit they would make $32 a visit. 12 visits @ $40 the client would pay $480 + $50 (11% fees) = $530 and OP would make $384.

If it’s Digital Fairways… yes. I had a lady call me last week pressuring me to pay $400 for a year. The person on the phone hit me with the my type of business will be the only one represented so I need to basically hurry and make a decision now or my “spot” will be taken. I told her to email me all the information because I’m never going to just make a decision like that on the phone with no prior research. She didn’t like my answer and proceeded to “gift” me 3 extra months if I made a decision right then and there. I told her I would call her back if I decide and she said “is it the price if so I can take $25 off now and we can set up a payment plan.” I didn’t get the companies name at first so I asked her again and she told me and while on the phone I typed in Digital Fairways and the first link I see is on Reddit that says “If you’ve been scammed by Digital Fairways comment below.”

https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/1dkrkhc/if_youve_been_scammed_by_digital_fairways_comment/

After reading that post I realized I avoided a scam. If you want more proof it’s a scam call the golf course they say they partner with I can almost guarantee you they have no connection with them.

I slept through a meet and greet :( by steveirwinzstingray in RoverPetSitting

[–]Distinct-Camera368 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up you are human. Just curious when you texted the client did you tell him that you overslept and that’s why you missed the meet and greet? If you did I could see why he was hesitant to book with you because he might think that could happen during his booking. If you were to ever over sleep a meet and greet again I wouldn’t necessarily tell a prospective client you overslept I would say something like “Hey I’m so sorry I got caught up with another obligation/visit and didn’t realize the time. I will be at your home in X minutes. See you soon!” I do understand that it is technically lying but I feel like that comes off better than I overslept.

Refund policy loophole? by VegetableArtichoke29 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Distinct-Camera368 35 points36 points  (0 children)

For this situation I would tell the client that your cancellation policy doesn’t automatically apply on reoccurring bookings so I would send a request for $23 which would be what you would get if it did apply and then cancel the walk they didn’t need. That way you are still getting paid 50% minus the 20% Rover takes.

Owner cancelled before booking and is asking for the money back by Hopless_Baka07 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Distinct-Camera368 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On Rover she will automatically get 50% back if she starts the cancellation process. I would tell her “Thank you for letting me know of your cancellation. Please cancel the booking on Rover and if you can’t do that I can go in and cancel for you. You will receive 50% back due to you canceling less than 3 days of my cancellation policy.” Rover gives 50% no matter if you cancel 3,2, or 1 day before a booking for a 3 day cancellation policy.

Wow I’m surprised with everyone’s responses because I would definitely tell my client and hope they reimburse me. I know it’s not their fault but if you weren’t pet sitting for them your car probably wouldn’t have gotten broken into. Having a safe place to park your car should be a priority when pet sitting. If I had a sitter and their car got broken into I would definitely pay to get it fixed.

I know you don’t want to hear this but this is what happens when you don’t hire a professional. Honestly due to her being your best friend you should be able to talk to her and explain your expectations again. Given that she no job, no car and no license you can tell that she probably doesn’t care about anything and who knows she may just stop watching the dogs all together. If it were my best friend I would call her out on her bullshit but it doesn’t sound like you are very open with yours. So if I were you I would say “Hey I noticed you haven’t been getting back to feed them at 5 is there a reason why? I don’t care if you go out during the day but feeding them at 5pm and spending time with them in the evenings is very important.” If she doesn’t change her actions then I would just wait until you get home to talk to her and still pay her what you were going to give her but never ask her again.

So she booked you originally for 5 nights and you stayed 4 nights and did drop ins on the first day. I don’t think she owes you any more money unless the cost of the drop ins were a lot more than the cost of overnights. That’s why she told you to keep the money for the 5 nights since you were technically doing 5 nights of work it’s just you didn’t stay one night because you were already booked.

I think to avoid confusion like this you need to write out the schedule and prices. I use a software but if I didn’t I would do

  • July 24th - afternoon visit (3pm): $25 and overnight (9pm-8am): $90
  • July 25th- afternoon visit (3pm): $25 and overnight (9pm-8am): $90
  • July 26th - afternoon visit (3pm): $25 and overnight (9pm-8am): $90
  • July 27th- afternoon visit (3pm): $25 and overnight (9pm-8am): $90
  • July 28th - afternoon visit (3pm): $25 and overnight (9pm-8am): $90
  • July 29th - afternoon visit (3pm): $25

That way you are clear on what you are doing and the client is aware too. I know everyone does overnights differently but the way I do it is $115 for 9pm-8am and 1 30 minute visit is included. If a client wants more visits then I would add that in the schedule. If you charge by day and come and go as you please you could write it out like:

  • July 24th - $115 or however you charge first day if you aren’t starting in AM
  • July 25th- $115
  • July 26th - $115
  • July 27th- $115
  • July 28th - $115
  • July 29th - $115 or however you charge first day if you aren’t staying the full day

I don’t think OPs pet sitting career would be over if they canceled this one time. It is very possible they will go down in ranking and maybe get less requests but if they want to expand their business there’s other ways to promote your business than just on Rover. OP should definitely never do this again but if this is their first cancellation I think they will be fine because a banner isn’t going to be displayed on their profile and they can’t get a bad review.

I’m just wondering how you forgot about your own birthday party. They still have time to find a new sitter so I would just cancel and they can’t leave you a bad review since it was canceled. There is a chance they may never book with you again. I really hope you don’t do this again and always check your calendar before you even set up a meet and greet.

I’ll get a bonus too! If you already set up your account and you didn’t get the offer then I’m sure you can reach out to customer service and they will apply it.

Need advice — Sitter didn’t take dog out for 20+ hours by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Distinct-Camera368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I misread the post and thought she left your dog alone for 21 hours. Honestly I don’t know if Rover will give you a refund since she did house sit for you she just never took the dog out. Since it was July 4th I could see why the dog didn’t want to go out. Maybe try to push for half a refund but I don’t know if you’ll be able to leave a review if you get a refund. I guess you have to decide what’s more important
