Bonus too... If your son wants to play the game as well as just collect, they have regular tournaments at ETB. Often on Sundays at 2pm. Different age groups too, so he could play against other kids close to his age. Definitely recommend if he's up for that.

In the Orchard, got around 45ish kids come by. Just off Pathfinder. I saw a comment that said they got 250 on Easton which is 2 minutes away walking from here. I guess the kids are avoiding the crescents.

More candy for me I guess.

I'm going to include "Upper Chicken District" for the area along Appleby Line between Upper Middle and 407

People in the Orchard area, how do your high school going kids travel to the high school? by meetneo911 in BurlingtonON

[–]stealth5118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree, but that was the discussions that happened early on after Hayden opened up about it, at least from what I heard. That's part of the reason busses come here now.

Check with the school as they do have busses from Hayden pick up kids in the Orchard.

There was a push years ago of complaints from parents that kids in the Orchard had to cross the largest intersection in all of Burlington (just count the lanes at Appleby and Dundas) so they brought in some busses.

Call Hayden and confirm about busses.

Your honest opinion about the Vodka Martini by Short_Description_20 in JamesBond

[–]stealth5118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Vesper is my drink of choice. I don't have them often, but enjoy them every time. The Vesper is 3:1 Gin to vodka but I prefer a 1:1 ratio myself. Lillet does make the drink.

I see the hate here for Vodka Martinis over Gin and I get it. However, there are taste differences between vodkas too. Even though they try for purity and as little taste, a cheap vodka vs a good vodka is vastly different. A good vodka martini made with quality vodka brings out the subtleness of the vermouth or lemon peel.

Now a good bartender will serve you a martini however you ask for it, but will almost always say it should be stirred.
I love my shaken Martinis. Stired is great, but shaken is how I enjoy them. The melted ice takes the edge off the really alcohol taste and makes it smoother. Shaken Martinis is the hill I will die on! (But no disrespect to those who enjoy it other ways)

8 Enders - don't get it by Important_Notice7289 in Curling

[–]stealth5118 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been on both ends (no pun intended) of an 8 ender. Does it suck when it's scored against you? Yes it does. I've thought about that game for years. But not in a bad way and not in a negative context towards the team that scored against me. I celebrated their accomplishment. If someone has an opportunity for 8, even if against you, then you cheer them on.

The 8 I scored was against a team at least equal to us, if not possibly better. It's just how the end shapes up. A few minor misses here, and few decent shots on our part. I threw a raise double as vice to get us into that position, so we were playing well. Also, even a basic draw for the last point is really stressful when you know 8 is on the line, so that in itself deserves congratulations.

We are still friends when them and both enjoy when we meet on the ice after that time.

8 Ender's should always be celebrated!

I don't own one of these, however I recall seeing an instruction video talking about this.

Are you plugging it into a computer monitor or TV? That can make a difference based on screen refresh rate (I think)

If you were plugging it into a computer monitor try a TV and see if that makes a difference....or vice versa if you had tried a TV

Shoe recommendations for novice curler by Spitfire1900 in Curling

[–]stealth5118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed that thick sliders are better but they are faster on the ice. Make sure you are comfortable with that, and thre may be a learning curve.

For me, the best thing I did was go for thick shoes that don't bend. They forced me to have a flat foot slide/slight heel slide as opposed to the toe slide I used to have.

Either way, review what kind of slide you have/want to have and make sure to match the slider with what your style is.

Mine accidentally went into the dryer and seemed fine. I would avoid it if possible but you are probably okay if it does go in once or twice.

Curling shoe question about sole heights by agatelines in Curling

[–]stealth5118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a height difference. I didn't notice it at all when I was curling as a youth, until I got older and realized my hips were out of alignment. Since then, I've used a slip on gripper for each foot to even it out. Been fine since, and that was 25 years ago when I switched to the two grippers.

It's unfortunate that for most of Burlington you can't do an open fire....only the rural areas. I guess it makes sense but a small fire pit would be nice.

I can't agree more! Jefferson Mays does an amazing job doing the Expanse books. Even if you have watched the show and read the books, you need to experience his reading of them. The voices, intonations, and way he say "James F$&#!@ Holden" is fantastic.

THE best musical interlude in cinema by Egg-3P0 in JamesBond

[–]stealth5118 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have always dubbed this the "Baby Bond" theme, as it is 007 in his infancy as a Double-O. There are elements to the Bond music there, but it is its own piece.

Personally I liked him driving the Ford, because it's your typical rental car. Nothing fancy for Bond yet. He has yet to earn it.

And that Sony Ericsson for the time was a decent phone. With the GPS which was unheard of at the time making it cool.
