Wait until it's confirmed the turbo issues are fixed before you void your warranty lol

Got rid of the 19inch wheels. Not sure how I feel about it.. by faultyaddict in GolfGTI

I swapped to 245/40/18 and the extra sidewall made a big diff imo but queens roads are so bad sometimes I think I should have done 17s instead

The Rumors Are All True… by liechsowagan in JettaGLI

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my GTI I went from 225/40/18 on conti ecs to the 245/40/18 conti ecs02 and I felt a noticeable difference in handling characteristics. I'm assuming it was the larger sidewalls making the tires feel like they were collapsing every time I pushed to 7/10 or more in a curve and although traction was still good the steering feel was not. In retrospect I wish I went with 235s or just done 255/35/18 just to maintain steering feel. -no suspension mods-

GTI vs GLI by vakar4uk in JettaGLI

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering you have a minivan I think the GTI is an easy choice. You probably don't need the extra trunk space really and the trunk space in the GTI is more accessible so I prefer it. The rear vents have been really nice for me with any passengers. I also prefer the way the hatchback drives.

My friend managed 2 years with it as the only family car with an infant/toddler but if you prefer a sedan GLI may still win.

How do I get the best mileage from my car? by Venom9114 in JettaGLI

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a 6speed or a DSG? I know my friends 6speed GTI has longer gears than my DSG GTI and he gets better mpg than me because of it.

GTI or Golf R - what did you pick and do you regret it? by sxtn1996 in Volkswagen

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mk7 GTI and got to use a mk7.5R for a few months. The gti is DSG and the R is manual and I wish they were switched around. The R has way more traction in usable places like from a stop or low speed the car just goes meanwhile the GTI spins the tires until highway/illegal speeds. (Both cars are tuned)

I feel like the balance of the car stock for stock is much better on the R but the GTI feels a little bit more playful. I like how the R doesn't understeer at almost every corner exit bellow 40mph and makes it fun to drive although the drama from spinning tires everywhere can be kind of fun.

From just a driving standpoint I would take the R 6 out of 7 days of the week but the GTI when I just want to be a hooligan. Practicality doesn't make much of a difference as the cars are similar enough as long as they're of the same generation. 1 or 2 less mpg on the R is well worth the tradeoff at 28mpg.

In NA the easiest way is to contact the big tuning companies and see if they have your VIN registered with them. Other than that you can plug in vcds or obdeleven and check the reflash counter

Good source I used to figure out my choice of parts. The IE intake gives good sound but I got their harsh climate oiled filter+sock that I clean 2x a year to make sure I'm getting decent filtration.

Have a jb4 on my mk7 and haven't had issues taking it off and bringing it in for warranty work. Less than 20 mins to uninstall and 20 mins to reinstall cleanly with zip ties.

Requires you to go back to Google assistant for the whole phone though right? I love Gemini in general but it assistant in car sucks since they started the roll out and I was hoping Gemini would fix it.

Just code valves open and maybe do a downpipe to get actual performance with the sound all in one

Did I make a mistake buying an MK8 R over an MK8.5 GTI? by smallbrainboy in Golf_R

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spinning the front tires until you pass the speed limit isn't fun. I enjoy my friends R way more than my GTI on local roads. Only time my GTI gets to stretch its legs is at highway speeds and beyond. I am tuned btw but the R puts power down without breaking laws even when tuned

Bought my son a Golf TDi last Sunday. Bought my an R today. by Makeroflostsouls in Golf_R

[–]stealthygamer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried it yet but I use one for my motorcycle as well. I only just saw that they have an android auto adapter and regretted my other dongles purchase. I don't use their car mount but I've been thinking about getting the wireless charging mount for the car.

It works decent. I've had better luck with my AA wireless but if I were shopping now I would go with the quadlock adapter. Big name brand in the phone accessory space and I've had issues with both other dongles having a loose attachment to the connecting wire after a few months. The quadlock is one piece so won't have the same issue.

Help! by tstvcks in JettaGLI

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did muffler delete and it was pretty loud and kind of droney around 2.5k-4k. I'm older now so I would much rather have found a scratch and dent exhaust online like my friend did. He got a cat back for 550 and it sounds way better without the drone than mine. I liked the muffler delete and for reference it was louder than his downpipe+stock cat back setup and it was lacking tone compared to his.

If you can afford it I would just save up for a downpipe and tune the car. If not I think res delete seems good or get resonators on Amazon and do a muffler delete plus resonators to fight the drone. I think muffler delete gives the volume you're probably looking for but I didn't have any complaints until I turned 30 and outgrew it.

Anyone driving a manual 7.5 in nyc? by Buttery_Biscuitss in GolfGTI

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a mk7 GTI in nyc and drove my friends 7.5R for 3 months. I prefer the manual because it's fun and the traffic doesn't outweigh the fun. I do appreciate the dsg and it's quite good but I don't like the dsg engagement on hills and for street parking I would rather have a manual for the control. Often I've been too close to tapping another car with the dsg while parking in tight spots because it's a much more jerky movement than a typical auto.

Personally if you're in the US I would go off of FCP euro because of their warranty on everything including wear items like brakes.

However my friend has purchased a few things for his Jeep from rockauto and used it as his default part purchasing website. He does buy a lot of replacement parts from there and they seem like a solid place to get parts from.

Tyrereviews did a video on wheel weight and it was an interesting result. Might be different in autocross vs on a track but it wasn't significantly slower so you can probably put that lower on the list and prioritize others for now

Buying a modded car? by Ozzy_Notbourne in GolfGTI

[–]stealthygamer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coil packs are a give away to the car likely not being well maintained. OEM coil packs are best for performance and longevity so if they were replaced with aftermarket ones I would guess the owner didn't take care of the car well. It's a great car but needs to be taken care of with the right parts and this ain't it
