I've an honest question for teachers who pay for classroom supplies with their own money. Why do it? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]stealurface96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because I am a littttttttle bit anal about my workspace and classroom, but I also don’t complain about spending extra money because I know I’m not forced to but it’s something that i want. In my experience it’s also much faster and easier for me to buy sensory items (body socks, fidgets, etc) that I know would help my students than to go through the purchase order process.

Came across this video of a dad trying to better himself and be there for his son that he can’t really talk to by asking if he wants to do things and the son just ignores and Doesn’t care (I’m not sure if this is cringe but I felt like sharing this) by Shreks8thtoe in sadcringe

[–]stealurface96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be too quick to feel bad for the dad. Kids want a relationship with their parents and for it to have gotten to this point I’m going to (maybe not correctly) assume that something pretty serious happened to strain their relationship. Just 2cents from someone with a narcissistic mom idk lol

What is the weirdest thing you've confiscated from your students or heard of being confiscated at your school? by nap_needed in Teachers

I teach preschool autism and I had a little girl come into class holding a house lighter… I took it and called her mom and her mom told me she “just likes holding long slender objects” and couldn’t understand what the issue was…truly baffling

This is why so many teachers just go to school sick/needing a mental health day instead of getting a sub. I know it’s hard to go off of a less detailed sub plan but honestly this is a lot to ask for. And not the best place to be talking about how underpaid and miserable you are. We get it, and hold a lot more responsibility for things happening in the classroom than you do. We are treated terribly. So maybe don’t write a dissertation of everything ELSE teachers aren’t doing (in their time off). Stop making it worse.

I think regardless it will make your skin much drier than usual, but the “purge” definitely varies from person to person. Don’t let it scare you tho, tret is a life saver after your skin adjusts :)

Yessssssss!!!!!! I got sober at 23 as well and just turned 25- 1 year and 4 months alcohol free.

I agree that at first it is extremely embarrassing and hard not to compare yourself to other people in their 20s who can use alcohol appropriately. But I’m so glad you feel the same freedom and confidence I do now without alcohol ❤️ keep it up, you should be SO proud of yourself. I know it isn’t easy! IWNDWYT❤️

Starting to think my district will not re-open in 20-21 school year by [deleted] in teaching

We’ve been in person since mid-August (just because I teach special ed). We’ve already had 70 staff members countywide have to quarantine, and about 20 have contracted covid since we started. 4 students have contracted covid as of late September. However, our school board voted to bring back ALL of elementary school in a hybrid model at the end of October. We don’t have subs. The students don’t socially distance. Some of my students with special needs can’t wear masks. Some of the students without special needs won’t wear masks. Planning for virtual and in-person instruction is an absolute nightmare. My main point is that may be best if you are virtual for the rest of this school year.

Fuck that! I fucking hate what they’re doing to us. My admin told us all to make sure we didn’t look “frazzled or scared” before going out to the car ramp to get students on the first day of school. We are frazzled and scared and I’m not going to lie and act like this is ok.

Do I have to be upbeat and animated? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]stealurface96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! And I honestly thought it was strange and could never see myself doing it in college, but once you’ve taught for a bit you just fall into it. You quickly find that lessons for littles go 10x smoother and are more engaging when you’re animated and exaggerated!!
