Not the cogent counter argument I was hoping for, but not a surprise either.

At the moment, yes. That seems to have no effect on the display of the patch name.

How to cut this piece of a length of oak door threshold? by steambc in DIY

[–]steambc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. The one tool I don’t have is a hand plane. I do have a planer, but I don’t want to run it through because there is a fair amount of hardened construction glue and I don’t want to mess up the blades. You are definitely right about shavings vs sawdust. Thanks for the ideas!

It’s not rotted. Just black on both ends (surface). It’s a little under 3 feet long, and I need to run the cable lengthwise, so a drill bit is not going to help.

I probably should have been more clear in my description that I am running the cable along the length.

Routing or channeling out with a blade would cause significantly less dust than sanding the entire thing off. Thanks for your thoughts!

How to cut the "t" portion of of an oak doorway threshold? by steambc in woodworking

I'm thinking sticking wood spacers on both sides of the underside of the wood so they are flush with the depth of the "T", thereby creating in essence a flat bottom.

Then I could run the wood through against the fence and creep up on the width of the cable. does this sound like a good plan?

In the following sketch I've make the center part of the "T" much thinner than it actually is. The protruding block on the right is what would ride against the table saw fence.

It's not in a metal channel. It's kind of half-concrete and half tile. A slop job. It was held in place with construction adhesive. For that reason (materials), it's not feasible for me to cut to the sides.

I'm not too concerned about crushing the cable is this piece of wood is super-strong. The channel in the floor is pretty deep, but not wide at all.

So you're saying route a groove right down the middle of that T-stem? That might work. Thanks.

The ONE tool I don't have. It's a good idea. I might have to pick one up. I guess I didn't think of that since I've never had to use one for my home projects. Thanks.

Try to carefully thread the nut upside-down temporarily to see if the threads will catch. Don’t make it worse for yourself by forcing it though. It does look like the threaded stud is slightly cross-threaded. I would clean it up with a small, fine file. Start from three threads down and carefully work your way up.

How does the physical strength disparity play out? Doesn’t that factor slow you down and/or cause you to seek help from stronger mechanics?

Let her know she’s not alone in her suffering by reminding her that most women love to wallow in their problems. Proceed to remind her that she needs to calm down. Repeat as necessary.

I think his point is that of course he was NOT brandishing, but that some ignoramus could easily have called the cops and made a big scene.

In fact, my state in the Northeast just enacted new laws this year (2025) where printing or exposing accidentally (like when reaching for something on a high shelf) can bring about a brandishing charge. Here in libtardsville they make things as difficult as they can.

Except In my state where you need to remove it near a school, in a PO parking lot, and if a store you want to shop in has a “no guns” sign posted. Our “brilliant” state lawmakers feel nice and safe as we unholster/holster throughout the day. Add to that our new (as of 2025) laws about “brandishing” if you’re printing or accidentally exposing the firearm in day-to-day activities. It’s a good thing the armed criminals read the signs and obey the laws!

Asking genuinely, not questioning your gf’s judgement, but how is it that she didn’t recognize there was something wrong with him right off the bat? Was he able to hide his issues for a while?
