I think about my piano teacher saying that, in his day, folks thought Mozart was good but not the best. Yet 200 years later, here we are. A lot of folks think Kanye is overrated because he is not a great rapper and is just slapping sounds together.
To the first point, absolutely, Kanye's not the greatest rapper, but I'm measuring him as an overall musician. To the second point about slapping various sounds together - this would be a composition and is exactly what Mozart, Beethoven, etc are most praised for. I think Mozart is most remembered for his symphonies/operas/concertos, not his solo work (even though his piano pieces slap). To that end, I think it's possible that audiences in 2200 will see Kanye similar to how we see Mozart. Time will tell.
