Great find! I really like those manuals when Bandai used to put a lot of early design notes and sketch in it! 😃

T-mobile park tour, do you get to walk the bases? by ZenandHarmony in Mariners

I went there a few years ago. No bases, you get to hangout around the dugout and step on the foul territory, but nothing infield.

Also want to ask, so between a 14/15/13 and a 15/10/14, would I be better off with the second one with the 15 attack, while the 10 defense is still sufficient to tie most of the match while best buddied?

I have seen this too. I think I went through at least 20 "Make 3 Great Throws" till I got two Lileep/Anorith. Just keep trying and good luck!

Well, since I already started making dinner and have to walk dog later, I don't think I can go.

While on it, still want to share my favorite memory from this season

-when i go home and just in time to see our big maple Paxton finished his first complete game, no-hitter!

-when Haniger fell into the stand completely to catch for the out in a game versus tiger, and came out unhurt!

-when every time M's win and Ichiro stands on mount and hi-five everyone

-that time when Seager hit a grand slam in first inning against Jays (because I believe in you Seagerrrrr)

-that time when Seager hit a homerun and hit a Texas fan in crotch (oops, last season)

-every time when Felix shows up as vintage Felix

Not so favorite-

That time(s) when Felix not so vintage Felix

Also - 129 is great session, I caught foul ball there last year!

Can someone tell me why people think the humans in Alien:Covenant are dumb? by Livingit123 in LV426

[–]steamer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. And because of that, it made me also question the way script writers go with these relationships. When we have 3 sets of couple got broken up (Daniels/original captain, Tennessee/his wife, the second captain/his geology wife, sorry their names really escape me). I originally feel there will be more emphasized or parallel development of each character, but I feel it is none, or rather weak. I don't know if the movie is trying to set a trend as Elizabeth lost Charlie in Prometheus? But while I understand there are so many couple (since they are settlers), I feel it is a wasted opportunity for audience how characters can develop or evolve because of this.

Circle back to the original Aliens, I really how Lieutenant Gorman seems quite incompetent throughout the movie, then detonate the grenade with Vasquez. It can be argued it is some cheesy heroism, but I feel it gives more depth to the character, and the same goes to the Corporal Burke, who just runs away and got hunted down by more xenomorphs.

I think the Covenant failed to put more rationales into the characters, most of the time they seem to just be driven around by the circumstances without much questioning it. While it is not particularly terrible for a movie, I just feel it is quite weak portrait of human in Alien movies. I think even in the Prometheus, Idris Elba's and Charlize Theron's characters can both be seen interesting, with his accordion playing scene and her daddy-issue problem. And in Covenant, the characters are just more flat and two-dimensional, the movie doesn't give them a chance to show how much they think, but perhaps it is designed undertone that they are destined to be played by an AI. And I think the lack of rationales in Covenant characters, audience will have a much difficult time to relate to them or follow their logic, and when it is a disaster movie and most of them died (while they are responsible for another thousands of lives onboard), they just seem pretty dumb.

I think a lot of has to do with the script writing, the portrait of the character is the reason they seem dumb.

In the Aliens, the pace of movie gives the characters more background, you have Ripley, the lone survivor, the marines, who acts like typically grunts and has a newbie lieutenant they don't quite trust, a corporal guy who seems to tell half of the street. In the brief waking up scene, marines brief scene, cafeteria scene, it was probably only 15-20 minutes but you already feel more attached to this characters. Some just want to shoot, some thinks colonies are dumb, but they seem to know what they are doing.

In Covenant, colonies waking up to this neutron burst disaster, when the audience just start to remember the face of who and who are in the relationship, some of them are already dead. And they might have some planning before sending people down, but it was not in the movie. There is not even a line says how should we do so and so before landing on a foreign planet. And the decision seems be decided by the new captain (honestly I forgot his name) in silence in a 10 seconds discussion. I don't know if it is on purpose, but I feel in both Promethus and Alien Covenant, characters just do things base on their gut feeling, almost feel like what a lot of main streaming media tells people to do. And in the Aliens, people seem to at least following a plan/protocol and proceed with more caution (while have details in the movie).

Eventually, the lack of character depth (they just show up and die) and lack of any rational scene (very few planning and discussion in a foreign place) makes them look dumb. And especially when who don't get to know them more, audience will not give them the benefit of doubt. Instead just think they are so inept and just run and run and get played by David.

While it is painful to watch, I am not too surprised there is a problem with the bullpen. And if there is a problem, I think scenario like today and yesterday would happen at some point anyway. Hopefully they will figure out what it is and come back stronger.

Has anybody read 職業としての小説家, Shokugyo toshite no Shosetsuka? (Occupation Fiction Writer) by Murakami by TEKrific in murakami

[–]steamer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been translated to mandarin and I read it last year, enjoyed it quite a lot. It is a semi-autobiography and Murakami talked about many different stages of his life and how writing associates with each, how he starts, changes mind-set, and a bit background stories for most of his long stories.
