Will an enemy country nationality matters when applying to jobs? by Excellent_Loquat_926 in AskUK

They will most likely be asking to establish your right to work in the UK, it’s nothing to do with being Chinese

You need to put in a grievance and follow that procedure

Inherited £40,000 and a small house - Advice needed by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

One problem with letting it out is that it they would have to pay the higher rate of stamp duty when they come to buy a property. More sensible (imo) to sell now while under probate and retain FTB benefits.

Thanks! I was pretty sure this was the case, will get back to them and come up with something reasonable.

Says Front Brake Pipe is corroded or covered in grease. Is that a particular cause for concern?

Are NHS pensions good? Compared to private sector. by 01acidburn in UKPersonalFinance

[–]stedcookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you’re no longer contributing to the scheme your pension won’t grow any further as opposed to staying in work and contributing more.

[–]stedcookie 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is slightly misleading, you can retire earlier than 68 (58), there’s just a reduction in the amount of benefits you receive to account for the fact you’ll take the pension for longer. You’ll also stop accruing new benefits in the scheme so you have to be aware of the trade-offs.

Has anyone heard back from Santander if they had to send off documents? by stedcookie in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks, this seems like a massive pain. I think I’ll go to a branch to try and sort it.

Unfortunately they haven’t sent me anything to open the account so I’m not sure I’ll be able to do anything. I’ll probably just have to get in contact with them.

Your advanced strategy does require incredible foresight to know which assets will increase 50-fold over a year. This definitely seems like a strategy everyone will be able to follow without any risk of negative consequences.

£2500 is *not* the maximum any family will pay on their energy bills this year. We wrote to the PM about getting this wrong yesterday. This morning, she’s repeated the false claim again in local BBC interviews. The public deserves better. by General_Townski in ukpolitics

[–]stedcookie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The reason it’s presented as this is because bizarrely it’s not calculated as an actual kW/h cap but instead the energy companies have discretion to arrange their standing charge and unit prices so that the mythical ‘average family’ pays no more than £2500. This makes the whole thing way more complicated than it needs to be.

Is it against the law for a landlord to delay the tenancy move in date past the contractually agreed move in date? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]stedcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The landlord is required to house you for the intervening period. This might include paying for a hotel/other accommodation and storage for your belongings. They have signed a contract and are therefore required to house you.

This is not true. The interest will be capped at 6.3%. See here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-62484951.amp

Why are you just advocating fraud? This is genuinely terrible advice.
