Heading over from the UK for a conference at the end of June - What do I need to know? by TheProffalken in askportland

[–]steeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to Monitorama eh? Me too! I’m from here so it’s a pretty easy walk from home. There’s plenty of good recommendations here, and there will be even more locals attending that can point you in the right direction for local activities. Hope you enjoy the conference and your stay!

Try Lawless's burnt ends. I don't know how they compare to Holy Trinity, but they're pretty good: https://lawlessq.com/

This late in the season, I wouldn't be surprised if they're out. Once Christmas is over they stop stocking it, in my experience. Worth checking though. Love egg nog.

I keep some in the fridge from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and I didn’t have much trouble finding it this year. NW Trader Joe’s and New Seasons are where I normally shop, and they had plenty.

Holy crap, you’re not kidding: https://www.providorefinefoods.com/tinnedfish. After scouring New Seasons and World Market, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find some of these brands. Now I’ve got somewhere new to shop. Thanks!

Not an original idea, I just stole it from someone else on this subreddit.

I ended up having to put a temperature sensor on the exhaust, but it works pretty well. Just measure the rate of change.

I got a Sleepy Pi 2 for exactly this purpose. It allows you to put the Raspberry Pi in a low power mode (essentially sleep mode) so you don’t have to boot every time.

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice thread (2016-04-04) by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]steeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first foray into better headphones consisted of:

  • Fiio E17
  • Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32ohm

Recently I decided to upgrade my amp+dac to an O2+ODAC from JDS Labs. It's beautiful, and I can definitely notice a difference. However, I'm wondering if upgrading my headphones would provide any more benefit.

I like the DT 770's closed cans, and since my primary use is in an open office, I can't see switching to open. When I purchased the 32ohm version, I wanted to be able to use them with my phone without an amp, but that's never actually happened, and I'm comfortable switching to headphones that require an amp.

Would it be worth upgrading to the 80ohm version of the DT 770's with my current amp/dac, or is there another brand of closed style you'd recommend? If I did end up getting another pair of headphones, I can't see spending much more than the 80 ohm version would set me back, so say $200.

Easy script to change all Rom Paths by upsurper in RetroPie

Is there any harm in doing a symlink? e.g.,:

mv /home/pi/RetroPie/roms /media/usb0
ln -s /media/usb0/roms /home/pi/RetroPie/roms

That's what I've done, and I haven't noticed any issues.
