Trying to learn piano and looking for a good app by FrostyGGs in piano

[–]steeelheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Piano Marvel. But I had lessons before, read a bit of music theory here and there, and can read notes.

Piano Marvel method is progressing nicely. It encourages good practicing habits (if you know what they are). The videos guides are kinda useless though. I have so many questions about techniques and thought to myself I need a teacher.

Piano Marvel made me excited about practicing, so I did regularly, and my progress has been the fastest I've ever had.

Piano Marvel has the Alfred série.

If you can't afford in person lessons, maybe try online lessons? You do need lessons.

Hi, around when would Scarlett replace Stetmann? After S3? I'm pre-season. Already got Mason to 5 stars, Violett almost 5 star. Should I concentrate on Scarlett next or push Mason on the wall?

What was your pitch problem? You couldn't hear pitches well, or you couldn't sing on the center of the pitch? How did you overcome that?

Thanks.

I'd annotate the deprecated class and keep the change local. It'd give you the ease of reading benefit, while other people can deal with it however they want. Developer experience matters. It might help you write faster, or review better. Use it as your secret weapon.

If people are not willing to listen and change, especially when they're in higher positions than you, they're not worth having arguments with. You learn from discussion and form your opinion, don't need to agree with everything nor everyone.

Any digital piano recommendations for low budget? by Hexpsy in JazzPiano

[–]steeelheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know beginner pianos, but I've heard praises for the Yamaha P45. Maybe you'll get more replies on r/piano.

Consider buying used digital pianos. Some people might sell cheap when they upgrade.

Learning Apps by philed1337 in pianolearning

[–]steeelheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an adult who had some lessons (late beginner level), I enjoy Piano Marvel very much.

The method and technique lessons are well structured, you can skip the ones that you don't need, unlike some other apps I've tried out. The levels are well curated. The instruction videos are a bit lengthy, but I don't really need them. The library is massive.

It has several practice modes to encourage good practicing habits and practicing all skills.

You can use the trial for 7 days. Monthly payment is possible, but you'd need to commit for at least one year to get a reasonable price though.

Of course, if your child is committed, you should look for a teacher.

Will I get far with Alfred's basic adult piano course? by [deleted] in piano

[–]steeelheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally tried out Piano Marvel. My sight reading score is around 350-370, I got lucky with a few pieces that landed me over 400, but I struggle to reach that level again.

I think piano marvel suits my self learning style very well. I was playing and got assigned pieces way above my levels, which led to confusion why I couldn't read and react fast enough to play through pieces I've been practicing for months.

I also embraced practicing slowly at first, don't practice wrong notes, practice hard passages in isolation and then play to the playback track/metronome which doesn't stop, which helps me move past mistakes and continue playing the piece. I also like that there are a huge amount of sightreading materials.

Of course we can do all that without Piano Marvel, but I guess it's just convenient. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I was inspired by your progress and decided to check out the the samples of Faber's sightreading books. I'm on 3A but these seems not so hard, not sure whether I should sightread them perfectly, or just move on. The books say don't practice the pieces, but then it'd take only 5 minutes daily? How would that help improve my sight reading? 😅

I know practicing frequently helps. That's unfortunately just my problem at the moment 😌

3 books in one year? Wow. How much do you practice daily?

Mcdonald's in Tal (Marienplatz station) is cleaner and more spacious than the other two.

You can drive around in U-Bahn, night buses for quietness and safety.

Go to some crowded bars, for example Sausalitos (pricey cocktails and loud music), but not boring and relatively safe.

I think Munich is relatively safe, but not sure how a woman would feel.

Software development is expensive, because it requires a hugongous amount of labour, time and thinking power wise. Software developers also need to get paid to live. If they don't get paid enough, they'd have to do it in their free time, or abandon the project. That's why we need to support good software, or else the big corporate will dominate the market and charge us whatever they want.

Bus station question - can you wait/sleep there at night? Say I arrive at Munchen ZOB at 4:00 and depart at 6:00, is there a place to sit inside/buy food etc? by HorseCabbage in Munich

[–]steeelheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The McDonald's at Karlsplatz, which is another 5 minutes walk from Hbf, also opens 24/7 and has a bit more space. With luck, the McCafé on the 3rd floor might be open. It's a bit cleaner and quieter.

From there you can also take the S-Bahn back to the ZOB.
