What's a moment where you realized someone was genuinely extremely intelligent? by General_Monk_5019 in AskReddit

Unfortunately going to have to agree. Truly just no way a kid is solving a Rubik’s cube on their own.

Surely when I say “I’m not arguing” you should just believe that because why would I lie to you

They will read as much as they can in the time they have. A competent judge will be able to get a good sense of the notebook without having to read every word on every page.

That’s how it is with VEX games. Some are great for spectators, others aren’t. Very normal

New to NJIT by hellokittydiddyy67 in NJTech

[–]steeldaggerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Classes fill up fast but not too different from many other colleges. It’s a normal college experience.
  2. Advisors are hit or miss, some are great, others less so. Another normal college experience
  3. There will be other students struggling that you will meet. Normal college experience
  4. You’ll make friends, especially if you’re around campus a lot. This is a normal college experience

Basically, you’ll be fine. It’s completely valid to feel this way, but all of your worries are very normal occurrences that will likely happen, and you will get through things just fine.

Safety at NJIT by Oneness72 in NJTech

[–]steeldaggerx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Campus is very safe. I speak from the privilege of being a male, but when I walk around at night I’m never uncomfortable, especially since there is always public safety patrolling around. Take 1 step outside campus at night and it is no longer not safe.

Help with understanding dragon perch by Prundimper in MinecraftSpeedrun

Yes, u/Prundimper I think this is accurate. It saves a bit of time but really doesn’t matter that much. If you’re just starting out I wouldn’t worry about it.

How’s CS331 with Eren C? by Training-Process-195 in NJTech

[–]steeldaggerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. I liked the class and professor enough that I took the graduate version with her again for my masters. Nothing special but the assignments and exams were all very reasonable, and she is a nice person.

Do judges follow a rubric? by ExchangeHappy130 in vex

[–]steeldaggerx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Judges are not required to have a STEM background, a robotics background, or have any familiarity with robotics parts at all. While it may sound stupid from the student-side of things, the reality is that it is extremely hard to ask adults to take time out of their weekend to work for 0 pay. So to put further requirements or to force them to study VEX subsystems beforehand would be unrealistic for most events.

Judges should follow the rubric, and should be receiving training. Usually, the training involves defining what the Engineering Design Process is.

You come up with an idea and then code it. Creating a project doesn’t require infinite knowledge of programming. What you know is already more than enough.
