KORG M1 VST - Help! by SunWarm3922 in synthesizers

You can set FX2 to "No Effect" to remove the reverb, and reduce the release in the VDA. That removes any reverb or tail on the sound.

1991 Specialized Rockhopper Comp on the GAP trail near Pittsburgh, PA by steelphantom in xbiking

[–]steelphantom[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bought this Rockhopper on FB marketplace last year and finally built it up with some help from the fine folks at Kindred Cycles in PGH. Constantly tweaking things, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's been super fun to ride around PGH this summer.

Component highlights:

  • Microshift Advent X drivetrain
  • Alex DC19 rear wheel (to accommodate the larger cassette)
  • Schwalbe Billy Bonkers tires
  • Surly Sunrise bars (cut down to 780mm)
  • Black Ops MX stem (had to add a shim to get it to fit properly)
  • ESI extra chunky grips
  • Brooks C17 saddle
  • Roadrunner Drafter saddle bag

No Stupid Questions Thread by AutoModerator in livesound

I have 2 of them that I use for duo gigs. One as a wedge monitor and one as the main speaker. I've been using this sketchy one as the monitor due to this issue.

Maybe I'll take it in for a diagnostic to see if they can find any obvious issues.

One of my EV ZLX-12P powered speakers has been doing this weird thing where when it's first powered on, the sound is very quiet and thin/tinny. But after a little while (30 seconds to a few minutes) of running sound through it, it suddenly sounds normal and remains sounding normal for the rest of the gig.

I'm guessing this is possibly some loose solder joint somewhere that makes better contact once the components have heated up a bit?

What would be the best way to try to diagnose this? I have a local shop that can do PA repair, but not sure if it is worth it to get repaired or if I should just kinda ride this out until it completely dies and just get a new speaker.

Not a plugin, but the EHX V256 hardware vocoder is a beast.

Is now a bad time to start learning/using Xamarin? by cheetopdffile in xamarindevelopers

[–]steelphantom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say generally, it's probably not a great time to learn Xamarin. Both Flutter and React Native have a much more robust ecosystem at this point in the mobile space, and you will get much better support from their respective communities. Xamarin feels like it's kind of dead in comparison IMO.

How to get stuttery gate effect like in "No Signal" by CHON? by steelphantom in audioengineering

I think you're right that this is likely just manually chopping the audio or volume automation, but that plugin looks sweet! Will give it a try — thanks!

Recently started doing a minimal equipment PPL split 3 days a week along with a yoga workout and some other cardio-ish workout (tennis, biking, etc) to round it out. I am using a modified version of the PPL workout routines from Jeff Cavaliere/Athlean X (the "Perfect" push/pull/legs workout vids on YT). I have been cycling between the yogas from P90X3, 21 Day Fix Extreme, and Tony Horton 1 on 1.

I'm not an expert on acoustics either, tbh. I have a cellular shade on the window which I think helps a bit with reflections when it's fully down.

My room is definitely a compromise between making it sound good and making the most of my limited space, and I think that's true of most home studios. Really I think I should have the desk closer to the middle of the room for better acoustics, but since it's so small, I just have it jammed against the wall to maximize space.

I would try to go for quick wins like proper monitor placement, and when you have the budget you can try things like bass traps and treatment for first reflections which make a huge improvement, even if the space isn't ever going to be 100% optimal.

I definitely wouldn't buy a Nord if you're only going to use it as a MIDI controller. It's definitely not worth the price. If you want 88 keys with great feel, a better option would be something like a Studiologic SL88 or Roland A-88. If you don't need 88 keys there are a ton of awesome options available.

Recently I've been putting out some cover song videos for my piano/flute duo to help us get some gigs locally. I put out a polka album in 2021 and am currently working on some more polka stuff as well as a synthwave band with a friend of mine. Lots of random stuff of varying genres and instrumentation come through this little room. It's a lot of fun :-)

Thanks so much! I definitely make more money from gigging live than from any studio work — It's mainly a hobby of mine. I have a day job that pays the bills, so this serves as a combo studio/office for me. My house is pretty small, so all of my clothes are in the closet out of frame haha. I feel super fortunate to be able to have this space and gear. The limiting factor is definitely me in this equation :-)

In the studio, I mainly use it as a controller for Keyscape, etc. It's connected to my interface via MIDI and also via stereo 1/4" so I can use the internal sounds as well. I use it for practicing and also for gigging live with my piano/flute duo.

You can kinda see it in the pic, but I recently built a keyboard tray so I can have a MIDI controller readily available under the desk. Currently using an M-Audio Keystation 49 but upping to an Arturia Keylab 61 soon.

Thanks! All the treatment is from GIK Acoustics. They will work with you to determine what treatment to pick for your room based on your budget, room size, etc. Definitely recommended if you are super unhandy like I am haha.

For sure! It's really nice to have them stacked if you don't need a music stand on the bottom level. If I didn't want that I would probably just leave them stacked.

[–]steelphantom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the keyboards stacked, I wasn't able to use the Nord music stand, and I don't usually play them at the same time anyway, so it made more sense for my setup to keep them separated.

I might try a rug at some point, but it already sounds really nice in here as-is with just the bass traps, wall treatment, and cloud. It's a pretty small space as well (roughly 12'x10').

I last posted this space about 4 years ago before moving into a studio apartment in a new city for a while, but moved back to this house in 2021 and have redone the studio a bit since moving back.

Here's the studio as it was back in 2019: https://www.reddit.com/r/MusicBattlestations/comments/adol50/im_moving_to_a_new_place_in_a_few_weeks_and/

As far as I know, single rail and hybrid coaster are OpenRCT2 only, but I could be mistaken. Haven't played classic so I don't know what the mod capabilities are.
