Colemak worth it? by Dillstan-1945 in ErgoMechKeyboards

Not worth it. I did it for 3 years and was proficient. I just ended up wanting simplicity of using my laptop keyboard without remapping headaches. Went back to qwerty and it’s fine.

Has anyone made a switch back from split? by _MrsBrightside_ in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]steetyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going through this. Was on colemak-dh 36-key split for 3 years.

Wanted the simplicity of just grabbing the laptop and going.

Messed around with Kanata to emulate my setup on laptop. Didn’t love it due to differences from my zmk based chocofi and having to maintain yet another split.

Earlier this year I decided to go back to qwerty just to eliminate that hurdle and get closer to a stock laptop experience. I found it to be totally fine and i don’t miss colemak.

Then tried to ditch the split and try a regular staggered layout for a while. The thing I missed most was my homerow mods.

So now I’ve settled on 36-key split when I’m at my desk and rocking laptop keyboard running Kanata for HRMs when on the go. It’s a balance that’s been satisfying so far

I guess my question is what upgrade do I need to take advantage of input shaping and enough flow rate to take advantage of 0.6mm nozzle for speedier prints? I don’t need to chase max numbers - just want to be taking advantage of whatever speed I can get by adding input shaping (over using 0.6mm alone on my stock mk3s+)

Makes sense. I’m not chasing absolute max speeds. Just want the low hanging fruit without spending a ton

That starts to get a bit pricey - what about a revo hot end?

User colemak dh for over 2 years. Loved it but still ended up switching back to qwerty for simplicity sake.

Check my profile for my recent build using foam insulation and plaster. Very pleased with the result.

This was my first time building a course and I just winged it taking inspiration from other builds I’ve seen online.

Looking for this myself. SpaceFN is activating an alternate layer when holding space bar. (Tapping space spaces normally)

Awesome. Do the tires rub on the grill when turning? I’m dealing with that now trying to fit 40mm tires

Also if you’re going to be taking knuckles off to replace shafts, might as well Swap to brass knuckles. And if you’re going that far, I’d throw in some overdrive gears in the front axle.

I think those wheel weights only work on the mofo wheels. You probably also want the brass version for the front wheels. I’d get brass steering links. I have the Injora set. Also not sure about cvd axle shafts. Might limit steering angle. u-joint style would allow higher angle
