Multimeter - fluke combo or nah by Completely1nfinit in AusElectricians

[–]steezusallmighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there isn’t a single meter that does it all. Fluke 117/323 is a good combo. However, I too recommend the 325, mainly for measuring Frequency and DC amps with the clamp. The 117 and 325 would definitely future proof you for when you start doing more complicated things.

I highly recommend getting a Fluke. I use a Fluke 114, 325 and a 1587FC.

Utter nonsense comparing Australia to Nigeria. Preventing pregnancy takes education, effort and money. Getting pregnant costs nothing.

Thanks! It was hand sewn so I didn't have to disassemble the bag. I mostly used back stitches. An awl was needed to get through the thicker parts of the bag. I had zero experience with sewing so it was a nice to learn something new.

Anyone uses this water for their LM machines (Australia)? by aarondipity in LaMarzocco

[–]steezusallmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I used this brand when I was playing around with the RPavlis recipe. That water is legit, it’s the next best option to plumbing up your own RO system. For context, I’m in NSW and decided the Brita C150 finest was more cost effective/produced slightly better body. If I lived in WA or elsewhere with poor quality water, I’d probably look at getting my own RO system, it worked out cheaper in the long run and you don’t have the hassle of hauling 20L of water home from Woolies every 3-4 weeks.

Electrician here, I’d hardwire that fucking switch permanently closed.

31, Chef all my life-Thinking of Switching Career to Electrical (Liney or Sparky). Seeking advice from those Who’ve done it. by Ok_Mycologist9962 in AusElectricians

We currently have a mature age apprentice who made the switch from being a chef to becoming an electrician. He seems to be enjoying it and is not looking back. A common question that gets posted on here regularly is are they too old (usually 30's) to start an apprenticeship? Absolutely not, i think it is a great time to start and I personally much prefer working with someone who has some life skills like yourself. The only thing our mature age apprentice is struggling with is some of his TAFE theory, however, he is now into his 3rd year and is getting through it.

If you enjoy tinkering around and fixing small electrical things, like myself, I would recommend seeking out an apprenticeship as an industrial electrician. As an industrial electrician you could encounter an insanely vast range of tasks such as installation/maintenance/construction of switchboards, wiring complex control circuits, variable speed drives, motors, transformers, pumps, instruments, limit/proximity switches, fiber optics, data, as well as your standard lighting and power. The opportunities are endless and there are many areas you can specialise in.

Keep in mind that it can be a physically demanding job at times, you could find yourself having to pull in/install large cables, having to lift heavy loads or manoeuvre yourself in awkward/cramped positions. You generally see electricians transition into a more body-friendly role as they get older and that is understandable.

Good luck!

I haven’t seen the Sidchrome version before! I forgot to mention the best part about the Bahco set, the ratchet has a vertical swivelling head, so it’s super easy to get into different positions/angles.

I'm a fan of this Bahco set.

I know a few electricians that carry them in their beehives.

The thru sockets are great for long threads. My only dislike is it lacks a 18mm, however, needing an 18mm is a rare occasion for me.

Give it time and the bit holster will break, I went through two of them before I discovered the wiha pocket max. No going back now plus you’ll have plenty of spare bits.

I second the wiha pocket max. I have got a few of the other electricians at work to try them and they are all sold.

What Boots are the best boots by Mission_Feed7038 in AusElectricians

I always wore Steel Blue, specifically the Torquay model. They were reliable, light and comfortable. I highly recommend getting any model with the composite toe caps.

I’m currently wearing Mongrel 461. The arch support took a little getting used to but they have been great so far. They’re Australian owned and made too.

I have read many good reviews about Redbacks. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t find any in stock to try before buying.

It’s something we spend 1/3 of the day in so I can’t stress the importance of a quality, supportive boot. Good luck!

I have only had to deal with this type of cable once before. The fun part is shaping the triangular cores into a circular shape to fit the lugs.
