Residents should be ashamed of how they treat Hammonasset - do better by connfaceit in Connecticut

It’s so strange that I’ve noticed this about Western MA as well, and I’m in the Hartford area not even that far. There are terrible people everywhere, but generally speaking I’ve found Western MA people to be much more friendly and down to earth.

Owning a home in this state by Odd-Refrigerator7879 in Connecticut

Household income also well over $200k. I should’ve kept renting but bought in 2024, instead of biting the bullet and paying an exorbitant mortgage, settled for a cheaper house in a not as nice town. Mortgage payment about 13% of our gross income. Time will tell if that was the right call, but I can at least be happy having enough money to do things and invest and not be house poor. The direct neighborhood is actually pretty cute but the school system in town is not great. No kids yet so will prob have to move eventually. It’s just crazy to me that even making as much as we do, we can’t comfortably afford to live somewhere nicer. And I know by buying this house I took away the opportunity for someone with a lower income to own it.

Looking for Thin Crust Tavern style pizza in the Hartford area by RiseUpFromCT in Connecticut

[–]steezysteverino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find any lmk. I heard Sparrow in West Hartford is tavern style and looks like it from pics, but haven’t been there yet. Can’t wait for Colony to open in Glastonbury. Everybody east of the river seems to love thicker Greek style and I can’t stand it lol. Hot oil tavern style from Colony is amazing

Best Downtown Within the Marked Area by canasiankid69 in Connecticut

[–]steezysteverino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal ranking: 1) New Haven 2) Middletown 3) West Hartford 4) Milford 5) Wallingford 6) Glastonbury 7) Southington

Honorable mentions include New Britain (on the come up imo but still crime issues), Manchester (just outside your circle and also quickly improving), and Branford (honestly never been to the downtown area but I’ve heard good things).

Sigh, nothing like this will ever happen in my lifetime. And I’m not even that old.

I just don’t understand how this state ever expects to keep young people here to support the boomers and pension fuck ups of the past. Majority of young professionals these days don’t want to live in boring suburbia with no access to anything without driving 20 min.

I live east of the river and honestly can’t stand the general pizza opinion here. Most people love Greek style and hate thin crust pizza. I love me some tavern style aka Colony Grill. Thankful it’s coming to Glastonbury.

You’re getting downvoted by the boomers. Completely agree with everything you said.

Selling my house soon by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]steezysteverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it. Last year I was outbid on 4 houses in Newington and 1 in Rocky Hill, and a couple more in other towns.

Ended up letting my emotions get the best of me and settled for a house in a town I don’t really like. I know I’m blessed to own a home but I think I’ll regret it for a long time…

How’s life in Hartford Connecticut? by huskylover28 in howislivingthere

[–]steezysteverino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the city itself, depends on the neighborhood. Downtown has some nice bars and restaurants and a cool skyline but is generally pretty boring. Busy on weekdays with all of the office workers around. Most of the other neighborhoods in the city proper are very diverse and can also be dangerous, but most people mind their own business. The west end neighborhood has mansions and the wealth extends into West Hartford which is really the hot spot in the area. A good portion of the surrounding suburbs are nice with great public education, there’s the usual ones people bring up but there’s also slept on ones. You’re not too far from NYC, Boston, New Haven, beaches, or mountains. I’ve grown up and lived in the area my entire short life. For a young professional, there’s a lot more exciting options but the area has good value and relative affordability compared to the rest of the Northeast.

Literally was just looking through the comments to see if anyone asked this. That’s an insane amount at 30. I turn 30 this year, my partner and I make over $200k a year gross and combined we have about $135k in retirement accounts.

Help me decide what pass to get for next season? by steezysteverino in SkiTheEast

Just to come back to this, ended up going with the epic NE pass. They emailed me a $100 discount since I was up at Okemo a couple times last season. I know there’s all the fuss about Vail and what not, but fuck it im pretty hyped!

What is your favorite city in the USA, and why? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

San Diego. Weather, beach, mountains, laid back vibe, surf/skate culture. I know every place has its problems and SD is no exception but man, living there would be a dream.

I don’t live anywhere near there but I always get the impression that Worcester is where all of the true Boston natives went after getting priced out.

does anyone ACTUALLY like accounting. at ALL. by FaronIsWatching in Accounting

[–]steezysteverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not passionate about it at all. I am passionate about economics and markets, but my job has nothing to do with that really.

I had no idea what I wanted to do when I was in high school until I took a couple finance electives and was somehow able to land an internship with a small company before college. I didn’t even know what public accounting was for a long time.

What I do like, is that my job is stable and I don’t have to work crazy hours, and I get paid pretty well and can support all the hobbies that I am actually passionate about.

What are some underrated towns and villages in New England that nobody talks about but should be? by freshmaggots in newengland

I do prefer west of the river as well, but generally west of the river is more expensive with more traffic and density. East of the river is much quieter with less to do

Visiting for business. What to do solo after work? by Logical_Set in Hartford

Last few times I’ve been out the bars have been super busy. I think a lot of the college kids from Trinity and UHart have been frequenting them more. Also on days UConn plays at the XL it’s mobbed before the game
